Another coin checked off the list for my 1889 Mint Set !!

The other day, I saw the video of Bill Shamhardt [ sorry if I'm misspelling it, Bill ]
on the Home page of PCGS ... and as I had just met both he and Christine last
month at Baltimore - I decided to check out his offerings.

I almost fell over - they had a coin I was looking for these last few years...
an 1889 Three Cent Nickel - in MS 66 - this one is graded by our hosts and is
green beaned as well.

Needless to say it is on its way to me as I type this...

Thats a superb looking coin, and under-appreciated as one hell of a nice Liberty head design.

Great Coin! Is there any special significance in the 1889 date? Just wondering if it was the birthdate of a grandparent or something else in history that has captured your attention.

It's the year Mike graduated from college.

It's my Grandfather's birth year.

Also, 1891 is my Grandmother's.

I'm also working on 1917 ( for my Dad )
& 1921 ( for my Mom ).

My Great-Grandfather ( who I knew well )
lived to his 99th year - he almost made it
to his 100th. If I ever get around to it, I just
may pick up a few 1861 coins - maybe a Seated
Dollar !!

Dimeman, it's taken you awhile to get back at
me for my age-digs !!
