The official "Congrats to Jon Jones on his 2nd title defence" thread.

On Saturday, the 10th.....Jon Bones Jones will have made his 2nd successful title defense against a very game Loyoto Machida.

After an enigmatic string of 16 wins and 0 losses over a 6 year span, Machida has recently been humbled by losses to both Shogun and Rampage. He scored a very impressive KO win over Randy Couture in his last fight however which gives him the shot at reclaiming his LHW belt.

Jon Jones has other ideas however. The 24 year old youngest champ in UFC history sports an almost unblemished pro record of 14-1. The loss being a DQ against a severely already battered and beaten Matt Hamill. Ironically, Jones is coming off of back to back wins over Shogun and Rampage.....in which he not only finished both fighters, but absolutely made them both look like amatuers in the process.

I wont claim that Saturday night's fight will be a "cake walk" for my man Bones, but based on common opponents, and the two fighter's styles, Jones looks to be the overwhelming favorite. If he can finish Machida, that will be a 3 fight string of top 5 LHWs that he has stopped......quite a feat for the guy who has just started fighting 4 years ago!

  • We are about 12 hours from fight time. Im amped!
  • The winner via submission in round 2, and still the champion.....JON "BONES" JONES!!!!

Wow! What a terrific round 2 for Bones. He gave far too much respect to Machida in the 1st round, and lost the round because of it. A much more aggressive Jones pushed forward early in the 2nd and landed a huge right hand which stunned the Dragon, allowing jones to complete an easy takedown. A vicious right elbow left Machida with a 2 inch deep gash on the forhead in which the fight was momentarily stopped to check the cut. As the fight resumed, Machida came in with an overhand right, but met the left hook of Jones before he could land it. Machida collapsed to the ground and Jones swarmed him. As Machida stood up, the uber crafty Jones slapped on a standing guillotine choke which eventually rendered Machida unconcious. When Big John stopped the fight, Jones released the hold and Machida fell like a sack of potatoes to the canvas....eyes rolled back in his head.

2011 was a tremendous year for Bones. He won 4 times overall and gained the UFC LHW belt as the youngest to ever hold a UFC championship. He then went on to defend that title twice. 3 of his 4 wins in 2011 came against top 5 ranked fighters in the 205lb class. It is probably the single best year ever put in by anyone in the sport's history.
