Biggest Coin Collection ever offered on Ebay? (1129 pounds).

This is the largest I have seen, 1129 pounds. Some decent stuff too!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIGGEST-Coin-Collection-EVER-eBay-1-129-Pounds-135-Albums-Silver-RARE-DATES-/360414374294?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53ea5ee996

Fun to look at.

Anyone ever see one larger on ebay?

What was the largest coin collection you’ve seen offered for sale, intact?

Just wondering…

I remember years ago conspiring with a few members here to go in together on an ebay auction for almost 200,000 wheat cents, sorted and rolled by date. We never wound up pulling together our consortium, but I remember the conversation about how big a truck we'd need to rent to pick up the lot had we won.

It appears that brianhowardart does not wish to go through the coins and sell them individually or as individual sets for the owner(which would probably bring much more money). Lazy way to do business, IMHO.

I for one would not want to handle this mess. You lining up for it?

Some people go for quantity. I'd rather have a small number of nicer coins.

WOW. That is HUGE. I can't imagine this statement is true though....

"1,129 Pounds in total weight, 75% of it silver coins"

That's 846.75lbs of silver coins. Say they're all 90%, That's 762lbs, times 16oz per pound is nearly 12,200 oz, times 32.62, that's almost $400,000!!! That's an insanely expensive lot to list on eBay. But holy crap, would I LOVE to go through that lot!!!!

  • This smells like a dealer out of Englewood NJ. He used to go by a different name and would never get back to you if you had an ebay question. Always seemed to have a large lot of bulk items. Coins currency whatnot. I havent seen him in a while. Looks like a new name but same lay out and such. Cell phone is from a place that could or could not be him .

Back to the lot 1,100 lbs of coins would keep me busy looking for die chips and die cracks till the end of my life.

That's not the point, Coino... I am assuming this is a dealer and I merely commented on this dealer not giving their customer full value of their time(assuming their is payment involved)---nevermind, my bad, too many ASSumes for me to say anything in this regards. Apologies to all.

That was fun to look through - thanks for posting the link.
It looks like he had a collection of the usual series, Barbers through current day, then tried being a dealer and added a lot of lower grade circulated stuff; maybe other purchased collections.
The coolest thing I saw in there was the blue Whitman folder nearly full of large cents.
    image
1793 apparently, can't tell what type

    image
1793 flowing hair?, extra pole and cap cents (at least 7 total on both pages)

The loose trimes and loose Morgans were fun, too.
And the silver commems are pretty good.

    Free shipping, really?
Perhaps the plan is just to catch the interest of some local buyers, then the item never makes its reserve and is sold outside of ebay.

12/4 update: up to $60k, still below reserve...

That is an impressive pile of coins!

Is this PVC going on here?

  • It's sitting at $30,100 as of now with Reserve not met. What does anyone think it would go for?

How can one possibly determine the value from the pictures? Too many unanswered questions. Why not just cull out the silver bullion coins and sell them for the going rate and just list the keys? Are the keys genuine? I am sure that the seller determined the value before he listed it. Perhaps he is looking for a fish. I do not see any the reason for listing an auction in this way.I predict that it will not sell. The reserve may even be reasonable but I don't think that anyone will take much of a chance on it. • I wonder if the containers were weighed with the coins. I would assume the folders were and so were the slabs. There were tote bins with coins in them too. I estimate that there is at least 100 pounds of containers with these coins and that is a conservative guess. You have sets in wooden boxes and plastic holders. I agree with rec78 that there is no way one can determine a price for this package.

    I counted (1) 1909-S VDB 1c, (5) 1916-D 10c, (2) 1877 1c, and (1) 1893-S Morgan. One has to wonder if they are all authentic.

If it has a reserve then it will not sell.

If this is authentic (no reason to doubt it except for my normal skepticism), I would think the reserve more than covers the key values as well as the bulk silver value.... The seller(s) will not lose anything... no doubt considerable work has already gone into the project. Cheers, RickO

Batman, that style of holder is 99% likely to be PVC, at least everyone I've ever seen in person was.

Edit to add: Those people were idiots for not selling most of that when silver hit $50. IMHO.

This is just advertising to get you to call the owner (Anthony's?) and look at the collection in person. Might be fun if you live in NJ. Doubt you get a bargain though.

yep, at 146 per lb ( if thats right ) that comes to 1370 lbs of wheat backs. yeah, thats a good size truck

Nowhere does it state that the weight is that of the coins alone.
Look at the albums shown...they take up a portion of that weight.

Also, while I see some that would be fun, but I see a lot of crap coins in the pics as well.

Looks more like what's bought at melt after it's cherrypicked by dealers. Someone bought a lot of silver at melt over the years from the area's B/M by the bag, stuff that accumulates from the public. Where else does all this stuff end up? I would think there would be a more interesting list of keys than what's there. It's plausible to think there's not anything worth much over melt, for instance a coin that's worth $100 or $1000, apart of a bulk sale. Really?

A retired collector with lots of time on his/her hands would have a blast looking through this collection to inventory same and to pull out the coins (if any) that have numismatic value.

My eyes would get very tired looking through these coins, my hands would get very dirty and my wife would think I was crazier than she already thinks I amimage

What I would have to do is put the collection in a separate guest house/office or separate garage and review the collection there out of the presence of my wife and kids. In that way domestic harmony would be preserved.

If I had the dough I would think 100% silver spot would be a fun price to pay.

A lot of work to sort that all out.

It would be fun work, however, for someone who has extra time on their hands.

If you bought it reasonably right (and didn't pay a fortune in shipping), you could make some serious money if silver rises $10 more or so.
