Non FS 25th anniversary sets??

Who on the forums had their set(s) graded without the first Strike and how did you make out? I did not pay for the FS label. Personally, I think it is not worth it on a silver bullion one ounce coin. My grades were posted today and I received two complete 70 sets and two 69 sets. I also got a MS67, PF68DCAM and three other 69's.

I didn't pay for FS labels on my submission. It wasn't all about saving the $450 in extra fees on 5 sets (though that played a part), I mostly just like the way the coins look in the regular holders better and I figure there's likely others who feel the same way and would like these regular labels to match the rest of their collection.

It could have been easy to think that PCGS could punish me and give me bad grades for not paying the FS fees, but that isn't the case. I think I did pretty well on the grading:

Didn't get any 70s on the 2011-S, but I got 4/5 on the reverse proof which I think was a major score. I have many of them listed up on eBay right now so we'll see if the market values these non-FS coins less than the FS. I think they may slightly, but I don't think it'll be significant to where I'll regret not paying the extra $450.

It'll be interesting to see if the non-FS actually turns out to be the lower population option.

Of course it's much much lower right now.

But after the FS deadline passes next week, non-FS is the only option left for the Reverse Proofs and the 2011-S coins out there in unsealed sets, and there are lots of them out there. Many more of those will be made. But for the other 3 coins, many fewer non-FS coins will be out there, but more are likely coming. The Mint is still shipping these sets and it's looking like some will ship past the PCGS FS deadline.

Even though I personally feel the FS designation is absolutely silly, and collectors paying large premiums for it need to have their heads checked image, the fact of the matter is there are oodles of modern pcgs FS70 collectors out there and they pay big bucks for their labels. I think it's fueled by the hardcore registry "top pop" obsessed as there's just no other way to explain why a FS designated coin will sometimes sell for *multiples* of a regular pcgs70. Just look at the closed auctions on eBay for the first spouse Louise Adams coin and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about image.

As such, anything I send to PCGS will be labeled FS if at all possible solely due to the fact I would expect to get that money back in the end. I haven't been in the hobby for a lifetime, but I'm betting the FS/ER fad will eventually wane and folks who paid outrageous premiums will either take a loss or simply not make as much if they had stuck to raw ogp coins. To each their own though...

I must wonder if any of these people chasing label flavors are the same ones complaining about a proliferation of mint products they need to buy. USPS, anyone?

But the population of "First Strike Forgone" coins will be low. These will be distinguishable from the "non-FS Eligible" coins only by the submission paperwork that shows the serial number and submission date.

Agree. The Great Pumpkin is therefore much more likely to visit my collection.

I'm just curious if it's possible that a non FS 70 can then be reholdered as a FS based on when it was originally slabbed. If selling individually it might make more sense to pay the reholder fee on those that already have a 70 grade !!!!! My guess is that PCCS won't allow it, kinda their way of pushing for grading fees on bulk FS submissions on every coin. Does anyone know ?

PCGS Customer Service told me no. Even though they already certified the coins as coming from the 25th Anniversary Set and even though it's still within the First Strike deadline.

Only time will tell, and btw at the price you've got them listed, don't hold your breath in getting to many offers for the better or key coins...just my 2cents. You're competing against to many lower BIN or BO's

That is still a possibility until the FS deadline has passed... and if you believe PCGS is consistent in their grading and you're careful not to damage the coin, they should all come back in the same grades... I'm not going to try it with my coins though image

If you have 10,000 of them to reholder, and you ask nicely, I will bet that they will accommodate.
