2009 UHR $20

These coins seem to just keep rising in value.

Be it raw or graded.

What is driving these coins up in value? They have such a high mintage (over 100k) I would not expect such a premium to melt.

That $1189 original sell price is looking pretty good right now.

It's what's referred to: Supply & Demand. In addition, one of the finest products that the Mint has produced for the collector in the last 50+ years.

Well, I'd imagine as it is one of the most beautiful coins ever minted might help in its popularity, thus translating to value.

A pal of mine bought one raw and he showed it to me.. the case is huge! A shoebox! It's an amazing coin, though.

I remember getting mine, submitting for grading, and not wanting to keep it. Sold for a nice little profit ( would have been a lot more now), and then, a couple of months later, the mint sends me the booklet.
Maybe I should go ebay or BST the unopened booklet? image

    Wild, huh?

They are much more popular than anyone realized initially.

I have 2 in for regrade hoping at least one will get the PL designation.
They are currently MS69 & MS70 first strikes and if I get one in MS70PL first strike,
I will dump it and buy another one in MS70, without the first strike.
I have looked at the MS69 under a loupe and, to me, it looks cleaner than the 70.
I can see no reason why it did not get the grade of 70. The one in 70 has a tiny
ding on the edge of the rim that can only be seen with a loupe. Oh well.
Maybe the issue is with the edge that isn't visible in the holder.

If they come back as they went in, MS69 & MS70 first strike, I will enjoy them just as much
    with no regrets.

I got one at issue, graded it PCGS 70 and sold it on Ebay for a nice profit.

A bunch of my co-workers did the same thing.

Little did I know one of them told their uncle to buy one. I was able to buy that one from him about 6 months ago with all original packaging (except mailing box/receipt), never been sent in. It now hangs out in the SDB until further notice with further referring to time frame, as in a lot further in the future.

I purchased mine at a local coin shop for $1,600. a few months ago. PCGS graded it (secure holder. Don't ask me why- just wanted it in that slab.) MS69. I'm pleased with it and will keep no matter the pricing.
I think many are following along these lines thus adding to their popularity.

I seem to remember a lot of forum posts along the line of "I'll wait and pick one up later at spot."

So I guess we just need to wait a bit longer. --Jerry
  • Because of UHR I ended up PCGS member and Modern Coin collector.

I was lucky to get one from the Mint early that graded MS70 FS that I sold for $2500 within a few weeks. I sure felt genius at the time, but now looking at MS70FS prices I no longer feel so genius anymore ... image

How true, and you know what, I'm hearing the same song & dance routine from that same group for any modern coin issue that may have potential. It's either collect the classics and anything else is horse poop. Bunch of old dinosauruses.image

The price actually fluctuated based on gold price. I did not buy mine at the above quoted $1189 but bought mine from the mint for more like $1349 after gold spot had increased. Still, I love the coin and don't plan to sell it anytime soon. with the limit of one per household for most of the year it was sold, most got widely distributed, and I am unaware of anyone having large numbers of them. They did lift the limit at the end of the year, but I didn't bite on it, nor seemingly did many others.

The $10 buffalo fractionals seem to be 4 - 6X original price at this point in time, with a small supply.

GB...what a wonderful display of what the Mint can produce. ... If my memory serves me correctly, there was also a live Eagle there, that was the model for one of the commems that came out that year.

I wish I had a couple grand more at the time to pick up a couple extra... my first one got an MS70/FS, and quietly rests in the SDB... the second one's still raw, also resting comfortably, didn't get it in time for FS, so chose to keep it as it was issued... hadn't considered sending the FS in for possible PL crossover, and wouldn't know how to judge it without expert, experienced guidance... so, for now, it'll stay as is.

Hard to be disappointed here... got lucky picking up the FS for $1,189, and the second one for $1,239... I'm tempted to sell them, but hell, the way these are going, seems there's good odds it will continue to rise... been a good gamble so far, but I didn't buy them to profit - at least, not right away...

What's most disturbing is how fast 2009 became 2011. Seems like we were discussing this "brand new", exciting coin a short time ago.

    Time is flying!

Only commemoratives. Circulation is mostly junk. We have dead people on all our circulation coins (mostly dead presidents). We used to have Liberty!
