2009 UHR $20

These coins seem to just keep rising in value.
Be it raw or graded.
What is driving these coins up in value? They have such a high mintage (over 100k) I would not expect such a premium to melt.
That $1189 original sell price is looking pretty good right now.

It's what's referred to: Supply & Demand. In addition, one of the finest products that the Mint has produced for the collector in the last 50+ years.

Maybe I should go ebay or BST the unopened booklet?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Here's a completed auction that finished at $3,268.18
Wild, huh?
They are much more popular than anyone realized initially.

They are currently MS69 & MS70 first strikes and if I get one in MS70PL first strike,
I will dump it and buy another one in MS70, without the first strike.
I have looked at the MS69 under a loupe and, to me, it looks cleaner than the 70.
I can see no reason why it did not get the grade of 70. The one in 70 has a tiny
ding on the edge of the rim that can only be seen with a loupe. Oh well.
Maybe the issue is with the edge that isn't visible in the holder.
If they come back as they went in, MS69 & MS70 first strike, I will enjoy them just as much
with no regrets.
A bunch of my co-workers did the same thing.
Little did I know one of them told their uncle to buy one. I was able to buy that one from him about 6 months ago with all original packaging (except mailing box/receipt), never been sent in. It now hangs out in the SDB until further notice with further referring to time frame, as in a lot further in the future.
I think many are following along these lines thus adding to their popularity.

<< <i>I purchased mine at a local coin shop for $1,600. a few months ago. PCGS graded it (secure holder. Don't ask me why- just wanted it in that slab.) MS69. I'm pleased with it and will keep no matter the pricing.

$1600! and you only bought one!?

With deals like that, is that shop still in business?

I seem to remember a lot of forum posts along the line of "I'll wait and pick one up later at spot."
So I guess we just need to wait a bit longer. --Jerry
I was lucky to get one from the Mint early that graded MS70 FS that I sold for $2500 within a few weeks. I sure felt genius at the time, but now looking at MS70FS prices I no longer feel so genius anymore ...

How true, and you know what, I'm hearing the same song & dance routine from that same group for any modern coin issue that may have potential. It's either collect the classics and anything else is horse poop. Bunch of old dinosauruses.

I don't remember if I posted it at the time, but I sure thought it would revert to a little over melt in a few years.
So yes -- I was wrong. But I'm wrong quite a lot, at least according to my family.

Well said. Another version is "If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him is he still wrong?"

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Hard to be disappointed here... got lucky picking up the FS for $1,189, and the second one for $1,239... I'm tempted to sell them, but hell, the way these are going, seems there's good odds it will continue to rise... been a good gamble so far, but I didn't buy them to profit - at least, not right away...

Only commemoratives. Circulation is mostly junk. We have dead people on all our circulation coins (mostly dead presidents). We used to have Liberty!
