Nov 27, 2011: Salvaged weekend a little, but another bubbly War Nickel

After an interesting weekend of snow and my mom's cat dying, things were back to normal a little bit today. Most of the snow had melted and I was able to get to a neighbor's garden that I wasn't able to hit during summer due to it being planted.

Not too much to speak of, but did manage a Wartime nickel! That made the day. It's got the same bubble issues as previous ones I've found. In fact, I broke one off and it left a huge hole in Jefferson's face... you can see that the top layer can be peeled away a little more... not touching it. Certainly interesting. Still silver though.

A few minutes later out pops a crusty, musty, toasted IHC. I see an 8, so I think it could potentially be 1881? But no idea, and not worth cleaning more as it's really chipping away.

Still nice to get out and swing the coil again. Maybe only one or two trips left if the weather holds out.

I’ve found a few warnix with that look. I reckon it’s the alloy in ‘em. It was a weird mixture and not always so well mixed, from what I gather. This is why they’re often prone to laminations, and ground action can accelerate the process.

Crusty critters or not, I love diggin’ IHC and silver. WTG!
