One more "Friday night" beer can and coin - Billy Carter

A couple days ago there was a string about beer cans. I wanted to post this there, but did not have access to a picture. I figured the original string was a bit too old to get much interest so I've posted it here

Here is a beer can that is a political collectable. It is an empty can of Billy Beer the brew that Bill Carter, the wayward brother of President Jimmy Carter, endorsed in one of his "let's make some money off my brother," schemes. Billy was quite prankster holding court in his Plains, Georgia gas station with his drinking buddies and picking up an extra buck now and then using the family name. At one time he even started his own political career when he was elected mayor of Plains.

This was one of his more harmless pranks. A more serious one was when Muammar Qaddafi put him on the payroll in hopes that he could influence brother Jimmy’s policies. That one raised eyebrows at the State Department. Billy succumbed to pancreatic cancer, which was a genetic family disease which ran through the Carter family in 1988.

The medalet at the foot of can is a 1977 Jimmy Carter medalet that is part of the "youth set" of mini presidential medalets.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I had a 6 pack of Billy Beer at one time. Don't know what ever happened to it.
