Buyer wants me to ship to a PO Box...

Maybe a rudimentary question but I was hoping to get some board experience.

My BIN buyer wants me to ship to a PO box in the same town as his Paypal confirmed street address. He has plenty of feedback. Would you go ahead and ship to the PO box with signature confirmation and insurance, or follow the rules and only ship to the paypal confirmed address?

    ask him why

if it's a low cost item it wouldn't bother me, otherwise it's best to play by PayPal's rules.

Only ship to confirmed paypal address. Unless its small value item and you can leave with the risk of chargeback.

I live in Southern West Virginia. We do not have street addresses in this area, but because of 9-11, all our driver's licenses have to state a street address, so we use our fire address which is not in the postal system as only boxes exist. Many companies require street addresses regardless of where you live, so these are utilized and ups finds them by going to the P.O. and asking where we live. Makes sense, right. The problem is that the P.O. will not accept these nonexistant addresses and will only accept P.O. Boxes. Makes ordering over the net a challenge. What is really funny is that our State Police HQ has a P.O. Box on their door for an address but will not accept our P.O. Boxes for an address on our D.L. Perhaps your buyer is in a similar situation and you are shipping via usps. Just a thought.

The fact that it is a PO Box is not the problem, it's that he is asking you to ship to a different address than his PayPal Confirmed address. I just shipped 3 SAE 25th Anniversary sets to a PO Box, but the PO Box was the buyer's confirmed Paypal Address, so no problem. FWIW - I shipped it Registered and complied with all PayPal requirements to protect myself.

I would stick to the eBay/PayPal rules for maximum protection. They have these crazy rules for a reason.

He can add the PO Box address within paypal. I have. I'd ship to the verified address.

He's apparently a dealer as well.

He mentioned that his PO Box was confirmed too, but I'm not sure if I can see that after the fact?

I'm in my first semester of college and I moved from San Antonio TX to College Station TX and I got a PO box on campus. I have bought several grand worth of coins since college started on ebay and everyone has shipped to my PO box no problem. I would probably do it if it were a cheap item but no need to risk it on a big ticket item.

  • My PayPal address is my PO box as is my mailing address and billing address so things match for me. I did have to have my credit card address changed. You could politely mention to your buyer that things don't match for him.

In general I prefer shipping to PO boxes. That way I don't worry so much about packages getting stolen from someone's street box or their stoop or wherever the mailman leaves the package.

No way will I ship to a non confirmed address with ebay. option is too ship to confirmed address or buyer can mail a postal money order.
  • I have a street address and PO Box on my PayPal account. Both confirmed. I think the buyer has to select the shipping address at the time of payment. Not sure, but you might have to return his PayPal payment and have him resend it, this time selecting his confirmed PO Box address.
  • I routinely ship to any requested address, confirmed or not, and have never had a single problem - ebay feedback around 12000.

When I was in college 20 years ago I rented a post office box because mail at the fraternity house always went missing.

My girlfriend--later my fiancee and now my wife--shared the same P.O. box address with me.

Her mama did not like this at all. Not at all. We were not married. What would people think?

Finally my fiancee said to her: "Mama...there's not much we can do in a post office box..."

No street addresses? - That is very interesting. Can you post a few photos of this? I did not know any part of the US was still that "way out backwoods". ?

  • Vermont has lots of small towns like that. Everyone gets their mail at the PO.

I would question why his PO Box is not a confirmed address. I have problems with an occasional seller because I do not receive mail or deliveries at my home(stubborn UPS and Fed-Ex fans....I absolutely will not do Fed-EX!). My PO Box is confirmed though.

I think we worked it out. He wants to buy additional items so we're going to do another transaction with the PO box as the confirmed address. Thanks for all the feedback!

Everything I buy goes to my PO Box. I simply set my account up so that it is a confirmed address. The buyer should be able to do that, too.

Confirmed addresses are irrelevant for seller protection. eBay/PayPal did away with that requirement about three years ago. It simply has to be the address provided in the payment details, confirmed or not.

I shipped to a buyer today who had a PO box, but it was his paypal confirmed address.
I wouldn't be too worried if they had good feedback. Or just say no, I have to ship to a physical address. If its the same town I doubt theyll mind.

If you ship to an address not provided by eBay/PayPal sooner or later you'll get burned. You've just been lucky so far.

I have mine sent up confirmed on both my home and PO Box, he needs to change it before he pays. Just refund and ask him to change it.
