Beautifully Toned Copper Nickel Cent!

ThePennyLadyThePennyLady Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭✭✭
Since it looks like this is the night to post beautifully toned coins particularly ones photographed by Todd, here's one I recently acquired that has just gone to a new home - it is one of the most beautifully toned copper nickel cents I've owned!

Lloyd, you know I love pretty copper, especially beautifully toned proofs like yours, but due to the inappropriate comment you made on my Facebook page (which I immediately deleted), I have chosen not to respond to any of your threads.

Charmy - Have not seen a business strike IHC (or a Liberty Nickel) tone like that. Does copper - nickel coinage tone differently than copper or nickel?

Yes, it doesn't usually tone with beautiful colors like this one did. And although I have a couple colorfully toned copper nickel Indians in my personal collection, it is rare to find them. Nickel doesn't seem to react to sulfur, wood, old tissue paper, etc. like bronze copper. So that's why this colorful piece is so unique.

Thank you, Charmy. I learned something new today. Usually, when I see that purple hue on a PF coin, I'm fine with it (it's usually caused by the sulfur tissue from the mint re IHCs or Liberty Nickels) , but not on a business strike. If I get an Unc. copper nickel business strike, I'll have to do some homework first!
