Theoretically we also need to consider the montage is only 40% of the 20th anniversary set, the silver bullion price is higher so collector value may be less (?), and we are in a worse economic market now. There was demand, for sure, but once a system was placed where prices could be bid higher and higher without any opposite pricing pressure, like short-selling in stocks and auction sales in coins today, prices spiraled out of control.
To make a tulip mania comparison to 25th eagle sets, we would have to ignore the sales on ebay (which temper the market) and allow only seller's increasing higher ask prices to dictate the market.
Greed on one end will make a tulip mania-like bubble. You need greed on the part of buyers wanting to buy it as cheap as possible to counter it.
