25th anniversary-- Is it me or is it harder to order on the internet the further you are from usmint

I am in Hawaii and we are the farthest away. It was impossible to connect to the usmint site, it took hours and hours and hours to order

Many people from all over failed to connect to the US Mint set. I barely got my order in before it was sold out.

WA state and a DSL connection and took 40 minutes.

I'm in the DC Metro area & it took me..28 minutes on the first try & 108 minutes on the 2d try. I have no idea if their server is in the DC Metro Area though. FIOS...Broadband

Don't think its the location of the server(s) as much as the quality of your connection to it.

I could see their being bottlenecks in Hawaii and other more remore locations where there is essentially a single trunk line serving them, and in rural areas where bandwidth capacity is minimal.

Portland, OR 10 minutes to get it ordered (I started lat (4:20 PM EST). I think your browser has an effect. I used Google Chrome, IE will time out a web load, Chrome lets you "wait" for the page to load, I had to "wait" for nearly all pages. To Hawaii, there are fiber lines, probably adding a good 50ms to the travel time of light, but most of us on the mainland already have 50ms latency. I personally don't think it hurt you too bad.

West Coast. I completed my order at 9:12a and was amazed. After that, couldn't do squat on the Mint website for three hours.

My father said it took him almost five hours to complete his order. He's in Virginia.

It has to do more with connection quality and bottlenecks than physical distance. There's also a large luck element since the site can only receive so many connections at once.

FWIW I am in western Canada and it took me about 40 minutes (started right at noon ET) to get my order completed.

In my case, I had no luck using IE, Firefox or Safari browers. Switched to Google Chrome - no timeouts, and finally checked out in about 25 minutes. All told about three hours trying to get thru! This is the worst I've seen when trying to place an order. Just wondering how many people got shutout.

I'll have to try a different browser next time. IE is just too painful using a cable modem out on the West Coast.

I used Chrome and I had sites time out quite often. Took probably 8-10 submits per page before I got to advance to the next one. Only had to click the final submit button once though, and right before it timed out I received my confirmation number via email.

Agreed that Chrome and Firefox are both better than IE just in general. You'll notice that IE implements "new" features that Chrome/FF have had for quite some time. It also seems to implement them poorly.
