I called the Mint today re: another order. They play a recorded message at the beginning that basically says sorry, the order is sold out. I do not think they will be making any more.
A freind of mine who works at the pentagon, works for one of the generals (a well known general without naming( that is in real tight with the mint director, congress , etc,
he was told that 100k sets is all that will be produced. He was very confident is stating that no additional sets will be produced.
Hello All!......this is the government we are talking about. Any other coins produced that are in these sets would take 6-9 months to be produced. By then they would be 2012 coins........Nothing to worry about those that have the sets!

there ya go, the problem with this country, discussing coins in the pentagon
<< <i>Perhaps the mint should use a lottery when the demand greatly exceeds the mintage. That would be fair to all. >>
That crapshoot phone and internet was like a lottery wasn"t it? I was reminded of sitting in front of a Slot Machine just trying to hit the triple sevens!

Why is that so hard to believe? Can't there be a few coin collectors that work for the DOD? Don't they talk politics, sports, hobbies, etc over lunch and coffee breaks?

I too have it on pretty good accord that coins are talked about from time to time at the Pentagon. None the friend of a friend story I have no reason not to believe it as the very top of the Gov is a very small circle of people and they do tend to mingle, that said I have no real reason to believe it either.
Quote; If you really want a set so bad, you'll just have to pay the going price now. That's capitalism.
Special Forces handle comments such as this in other ways., but truth is that some some of us spent 6 and 7 hours on line or on the phones and were still screwed without a coin to complete there Sets. I placed orders online at 2;30 for one set, plus another around 4;00 for 4 sets on website, both were canceled. Got thru around 5 o'clock and complained and was told that I was to use a replacement number for 5 sets. Friday AM I checked and was told that the replacement number is invalid and will not be getting any sets.,in fact they suggested that I made up the number or copied it down wrong.
I have been working on 2 ASE sets since 1986 but will probley sell them now.
Again, I am only going by what I was told, but will tell you this, the general I am referring too does collect coins by the way, and not only that has some in his office at the pentagon.
No they will not up the 100k mintage. My reason is not the coins, it's because of the box. They can make a pile of coins FAST, as illustrated with the 2010 proofs. Boxes take longer to procure, build, and receive (from China?).
That said, it would not surprise me if they lower the household limit to *one*.
> How were you "screwed out of the set"? > You had just as good a chance to order as the rest of the world, did you not? > Many of us here spent considerable time in a frustrating attempt to get thru to the Mint's web and phone sites. > You were free to do the same, yet you either chose not to or you were unlucky and didn't get in in time to order. > For the most part what I'm hearing in this forum from those who weren't able to get an order in is, most definitely, sour grapes. > If they had gotten their orders in, they wouldn't be complaining that the system was unfair.
I was screwed in that I did everything I could correctly but because of the design of the system I was unsuccessful. I won't say the system was unfair because we all stood the same chance of success. Instead I will say the system is stupid. There was no reason to create big winners and big losers when a system could have been designed that would make everyone relatively happy. If you can't run a website that can handle the order load, then you need to change the order limits to 2 or 3 per household.
I think you are wrong and underestimate the fairness and honesty of the people on this board. Many have said the Mint screwed the pooch on this issue, both those that got theirs (and more) and those who got screwed. The system may have been "fair" but it completely failed in it's intent, to efficiently and fairly disperse these sets and to satisfy the demands of their customers.
With dealers (even at least one on here) offering an instant $50 or $100 per set profit for simply ordering and reshipping, the instant sell-out was mostly from people seeking a quick profit. The typical collector on the Mint's snail mail list who thinks he can order one set for his collection sometime between now and Thanksgiving doesn't yet know that he has already been shut out of the game.

Agree but hind sight is always 20-20. Should have limited it to one per household during the first week.

I don't think they will. This is the end of the year. They want to start striking 2012 issues. They would have to get more boxes. This was meant to be a manufactured rarity, not a mint-to-demand item IMO. If anything they may drop the HH limits. I doubt even that.

It pretty much states that the ordering limit was set and has been reached for the 25th Anniversary Sets. Unfortunately, this set is SOLD OUT.
This tells me that the 100,000 mintage limits will NOT be increased and those that were unable to order them are just out of luck.
