joining PCGS / another 25th anniversary eagle set question...

Will the 25th anniversary eagle set be eligible for the free 5 coin grading with the 1st strike label if I sign up for membership? what tier would be the best value?

Not sure, but I believe the "free bee's" only covers the grading fee not the FS....best for u to contact PCGS.

  • 1st Strike always costs extra ($18/coin) and 3 of these are not (should not) be eligible for First Strike labeling.

Tier? Consider Silver Level unless you have other classics to submit now.
  • I'm on hold right now waiting to speak to a CSR at PCGS. I want to get a quote for a membership and all 5 sets I ordered to be graded with FS. I'll report back when I'm done.

Same thing occurred in 2006 and, as long as they were in a sealed box when submitted, they did get FS.
Now, of course, it all depends on which direction PCGS takes with this.

I am ok with only allowing the 2 unique coins to be FS as that would save me a buttload of money (5 sets x 2 coins is a lot less to pay for than 5 sets x 5 coins (15 coins less image )).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • $567.95 for 5 sets. Breakdown is as follows:

Grading (includes 25th anniv. designation): $350 (25 coins)
    FirstStrike: $180 (10 coins)
Handling: $8 (flat $8 per PCGS order; does not matter how many coins are included)
Shipping (declared insurance value: $1500): $29.95
    Total: $567.95 / $113.59 per set

Not sure if these orders are taxed, as I've never submitted. Obviously this excludes your membership fees. I was told that these would be a modern submission so going with silver tier would be the best choice as the other tiers are for "regular" submissions, not moderns. Modern submissions are cheaper.

Single set submission cost would be around $140 with all of the above fees plus membership fees.

The way I see it, even if I don't get a full 70 set, I will easily recoup my grading and membership costs...so why not? It's more effort and more cash floating out in the open but it's not going to make or break me. $650ish between grading fees, membership fees and shipping to PCGS will be recouped without a doubt, maybe even with profit. Anyone care to disagree?
