Does this mean 100,000 sets were sold in less than 5 hours? That is truly unbelievable!

Just ordered another set. Didn't see a waiting list notice or was it posted when I checked out.

I ordered mine directly on the Mint's phone order line about 20 min. ago. Their web site said "backordered" so I asked the clerk about my order. She said they ARE still in stock (this was about 1:30 PM Pac. Time) and I will get them in 1-2 weeks.
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast.

I think they will settle around that. The first "in Hand" sets I think will beat that.

Shut out completely. 2 phones, cell and work dialing coninuously and I mean continuously from noon to 5:30 p.m. pluss trying online. Got kicked out at checkout point a few times on line. First time EVER I couldn't get something ordered. Finally got a wait list order in about 5:30. UNBELIEVABLE demand. Congrats to all who got in on the deal. Wasn't my day.

I ordered 2 sets at 1:30 pm. ZOO! I got my email and all is well.
I just tried to order 2 more and saw the waiting list message. Place an order anyway.
My email looks the same as the one I got in the afternoon. The only thing that was different was the ship date???
Didn't say anything about a wait list?

Or, insure an increase of the mintage limits.

I suppose folks will have to wait until next week after all the complaints have been registered and the sales figures analyzed.

I figure the limits to be 250,000 since thats what the 20th Anniversary Sets were set at yet they still command a near 200% premium.

If they do up the limits, I'll just order another 5 sets.

Isn't the 100k limit mandated by law, or does that apply just to modern commem's??

Sure the Mint Director is throwing this idea around, still potential for more profit. Probably could sell another 100k without much trouble.

So, for those that regularly order from the mint, does "backordered" usually mean "you're screwed?"

  • Was unable to load us mint site at work (bummed) to place order. I just managed to place order, website incredibally slow. I have an order number.
However, I noticed this in my account:

    Status: Suspended

So, Am I now on the waiting list?

As did I, so am I to understand correctly that if you have an official order number from the mint, that likely you'll receive your order over someone on the waiting list?

I just was able to place my order at 7:22EST. I've been trying all afternoon. It says it's back ordered with expected ship date of 11/11. I saw nothing on the mint site about a wait list.

If you're on the wait list, does your online order status show "Wait List" or "Backordered"?

Backordered ... and in all likely hood, it will constantly be moved back... keep a weekly or daily eye on it.

So when do we know that we actually have the sets?

I ended up getting 5 all at once. I would've like to have tried to get a couple of orders of maybe 3 sets in one and 2 in another, but did not want to risk not being able to get back through and ending up with only 2 or 3 sets. I think these will be a home run selling for $700 to $750 a set and then settling down to around $500 to $600 when all of the dust settles.

My order number is 38359XXX so I think I should be ok.

Good luck to all of you right on the bubble.

If I understand correctly...they will up the limit. I was on at 12 and went straight to checkout....spent an hour trying to checkout before I had to give up and get to work. :-( Ordered them a few hours ago and went through with a backorder date of 11/11/11.....so ya think I will get them????? :-D

I seriously doubt it, they were something like 27,000 orders placed between 4:30 and 6:30 all on the waiting list.
