You're assuming each order had 5 coins.

Your back order doesn't have an expected ship date? Mine are "expected to ship Nov. 10".

It's usually not sold out until the Mint says something like, "Product not available."

Amazing how Twitter and Facebook can handle a billion + folks logged into them 24/7 yet the mint gets swapped if 20,000 people hit their site. They need to get rid of that Amiga1200 and 56k baud modem and get something a little beefier.

I'd pay money to see what's happening in the call center now.. is it 200 people answering phones non-stop or is it 4 people out on an extended cigarette break complaining that it's going to be "a hell of a day."

One is government and the others are not. Get yourself a copy of Harry Browne's book, Government doesn't work, or Why government doesn't work. It's ani oldie but a goodie and actually a collectors item. IF you do this and read it, please offer me the book for sale after your done and if reasonable I'll buy it. I'm interested in buying 100+ copies and will take them today if they were available at a reasonable cost.
  • Been trying to get through for over 1 hour & 45 minutes. Finally got through. They have over 100 operators taking calls so I guess they are trying their best...

Simple economics. The Mint has no incentive to scale up their infrastructure. Facebook users are on all the time, constantly generating revenue. We raid the US Mint maybe a few days out of the year, and the bulk of the time are not generating revenue. Plus, I assume the Mint doesn't care if they sell out in one day, one week, or one month (except for any storage fees they may incur).

    Agreed.

    (posted @ 109 minutes)

Since #1 order was 38324xxx, that makes it about 18,000 orders give or take 500, in 110 minutes!

Even if it takes 30,000 to 40,000 order numbers, it seems like it will be the fastest sellout in a long time.

Anybody remember a faster one? The 2006 3-pc Gold set?

Well, back from Lunch. Thursdays are wings days at Hooters, and this was a good one. Think I'll give the ol' website a try now that the rush is over.

Could you have ordered 5 indivdual sets? Didn't want to take the risk seeing that it took 2 hrs. 5 minutes
    to complete the order.

These are toast! The difference between my first and last orders is over 27000. I didn't get my first order in until almost an hour. I wonder when they'll stop taking orders...
  • georgiacop50georgiacop50 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭✭
Since one can place multiple orders (initially), you can not know how many of these orders are valid and thus will be filled.

For example, my order for 5 never got to the confirmed stage, so I filled my cart and went thru the process again... only to get disconnected (again)b4 reaching the order confirmed page.

But I see in MYORDERS that I have 2 orders of 5 each on queue. So until they weed out the multiple orders, the numbers have little meaning.
  • Couldn't this number be counting phantoms too? Also, not all orders are for the ASE set. That being said, these cannot be long for this world. Ridiculous.

Exactly and not everyone ordered 5 coins at once. I've placed 2 separate orders and it would not surprise me if a lot of folks only placed one order. In addition the 25th anniver set wasn't the only game in town. I've changed my mind and now believe that it may sell out by this evening though. Looks like the Mint's server can handle now about 10,000 orders per hour, which is about double of what it could handle in 2006.

and don't forget, some of those ordering 5 are doing it 1 at a time.

and there are a lot of non-flippers out there who may only want 1 or 2 for themselves.
