Thursday Night Viewing: World Series, B&B, or Coin Hoards on Discovery?

OK, I am lying about the coin hoards part image

Tomorrow night you have to make a really hard choice.

Either watch the World Series game 6, or the long awaited return of Beavis & Butthead on MTV.

This might be a good day to acquire a DVR.

Is anybody outside of the Metroplex and eastern Missouri watching the World Series or even know it's on now?

I'll tune in to B&B for the sake of nostalgia. It'll bring me back to my memories of junior high.

I can draw Beavis and Butthead as well as the artist himself, but not in all poses.

Was great fun years ago....I doodled them everywhere!!

Probably not a lot but regardless it's way better then last years WS. It's been great and I swore I wouldn't even be watching it after Texas beat down my Tigers. The end of game 2 had me hooked.

Last years WS Giants vs Texas produced the same Game 5 rating as this year which is awful. 2008 (Philly-TB) was the all time worse rated WS but 2010 SF-Texas and 2011 STL-Texas are right there. MJ

Being from St. Louis I have to pick the Cardinals over the long awaited return of Beavis and Butthead. I am a diehard Cards fan and I have already pulled out most of my hair so why stop now!?

I disagree about last year's World Series. I really (and I mean really) enjoyed the series last year.

As for the Tigers I thought they would go farther than they did. As for that NFL team in Detroit, I wrote a little something about them in the Sports Talk forum just a little while ago.

When the Yankees got bounced out, the baseball season ended. Does anyone actually follow the Cardinals and Rangers? I've seen Libyan rebels wearing Yankees hats, but I have never seen one freedom fighter don a St. Louis or Texas cap.

90% of the USA was rooting against the Yankees. Trust me. I guess of that 90% of Yankee haters, most of them prefer Dancing with the Stars to the Rangers or Cardinals.

I do miss watching the AROD train wreck. That was must see TV.

  • 8:00 - Big Bang Theory, World Series AND Charlie Brown!
I'm DVRing Charlie Brown, watching Big Bang and missing 1st 1/2 hour of WS.
10:00 Beavis & Butt-Head - DVR is already set to record. Hope it's as good as the original series was.

I'm a Yankees fan too and lost interest in the playoffs after they lost.
But I do watch the WS - I'm rooting (mildly) for the Cards.
I've got a Cards jersey and really like the way it looks!

I have never seen a more exciting baseball game--it was ridiculous! Twice the Cards were down by two runs and down to their last strike. Definitely one for the ages...

A real beauty, although I admit that I would've liked it if Hamilton coulda been the hero...no rooting interest there really, just like his story.
  • WTCGWTCG Posts: 8,940 ✭✭✭
I'll admit tonight's game was excellent, perhaps more so for the folks in St. Louis than in the Metroplex. I didn't really feel like baseball tonight but I just couldn't turn away.

For a few minutes there I thought we were all going to be incessantly subjected to Josh Hamilton's "story" all winter. Thankfully for now that may not happen afterall.

Most people on the coasts (that is you Longacre and WTCG) have no idea what Cardinal baseball is all about. Tons of people are Cardinals fans with a geographical base that is pretty crazy actually. Cardinal NATION reaches from St. Louis to Colorado, to central Illinois, to most of Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas and Iowa. Most of the mountain states were (and still are) Cardinal fan bases before the Rockies came on the scene a short while ago as well.

I know, I know...those are all Red states that don't matter...

Having grown up in Southern Illinois playing ball, and having lived on the West Coast for most of my adult life, I can say that I understand the dynamic of both baseball areas. The Giants are a great baseball franchise, but they are completely different. St. Louis lives and breathes baseball. Stuff like tonight is what Cardinals fans live for...and expect in some strange way.

I told my girlfriend during the 8th inning that we needed some ghosts to show up and that the Yankees and Cardinals are the only two teams that have the ability somehow to summon their help with a bit more frequency than other teams. They showed up tonight in grand fashion. Amazing game, and I while I have no idea if the Cardinals will finish this wild ride with a 'W', I can say pretty surely that the ratings will be better than discussed previously in this thread. image

    Enjoy your garlic fries...image

  • The fan base reaches down into Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, etc., where Cardinal games were broadcast before Atlanta and Houston had teams. GO CARDS!

St. Louis to Colorado, to central Illinois, to most of Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas and Iowa and most of the mountain states. Add the entire population up and how many people is that? 300? Yeah, yeah, I'm only kidding. If the Cards win tomorrow night you can expect their fan base to double in size for the next nine months. Ditto for Texas. By winning a championship, teams also earn a nationwide bandwagon following for the next season. Until this time last year I didn't realize there were so many Giants fans in Colorado and Texas.

As much as people elsewhere hate the coast and big market teams, when those teams play in the postseason a lot more people tune in. Right or wrong that's simply fact.

Of course the St. Louis area is going crazy for the Cardinals. What other teams could they root for? The Rams? Are you serious? Saying they suck this year would be a compliment. The Blues? Not since the Brett Hull days.

B&B was pretty darn funny and I was laughing out loud. It was a good opener with hopefully many more to come.

But that Game 6 was great! Even though I hate the Cardinals!!!

  • If you like baseball, this world series has had a bit of everything. Awesome stuff!
If you think baseball is only about the Yankees, how sadly misguided.
