11/24/11 Update.
Sent these 3 in to PCGS with a membership voucher. I wanted to ensure they were GENUINE if nothing else, and hoped
at least two would come back with grades. The fourth coin was bought from FISHTEETH on the BST board. He described it as:
1840-O another interesting early five. with rarer wide mill, some small rim issues but still decent looking.
AND PCGS SAYS OF THE FOUR:
Cert Number PCGS No. Date Denom Variety Grade Status
20777736 7743 1846-O $2.50 VF30 Cert Printed View Coin
20777737 8200 1840-O $5 VF25 Cert Printed View Coin
20777738 8216 1843-O $5 Large Letters VF25 Cert Printed View Coin
20777739 8225 1845-O $5 N1 Cert Printed View Coin

I bought the three below New Orleans gold coins on ebay last night.
Two were described as cleaned
Question is can I handle these enough to wear them down and get rid of the cleaning so PCGS will grade them?
Thoughts??
They are for my own collection and bought for not much more than melt.
Thanks
David

Exit bunker, enter Matrix. LOL
These were bought for a total of 15% over melt after ebay bucks received. I only buy gold close to melt and with
very limited funds, the collection doesn't grow quickly.
I would prefer to have a PCGS VG rather than a Fine detail PCGS genuine. I thought that perhaps some wear would
remove the cleaning if it was only on the surface. So far I have two votes for NO it won't work. Don't understand why
it wouldn't, but I don't really no and that's why I am asking.
New Orleans half eagles a certainly proving tough to find in low grade unmessed with at reasonable prices. Looks like
I may have to settle for Genuine.
