BBCE Got Some New 70's Baseball Wax Boxes

Saw this posted on the BBCE homepage this evening:

We got in some nice Topps baseball wax boxes today from the 1970's. There is a 1973 All-Series wax box, 1974 wax box, 1975 mini wax box, 1976 wax box, 1977 wax box (which we broke to sell packs) and some 1978 wax boxes. These boxes are all very fresh and NM-MT to MINT! UPDATE--THE 1974 and 1976 BOXES SOLD ALREADY IN A FEW MINUTES FROM LISTING THEM! Thanks! Steve

The '74 and '76 boxes sold while I was browsing. I did pickup a '78 box. If the '75 mini box sticks around for awhile, it would make for a fun group rip selection.

Who bought the 76 box? I just emailed Steve to say I would like it, when I went back to the home page and saw it sold,

I picked up a 79 cello box over the weekend--was looking at the 78 wax box also but the 25th anniversary silver eagle set is out this Thursday so I need to keep some money aside.

I never noticed this before, but the 1975 box says "1977 special features" on the side . . .

I'd love to have this one, was 10 years old and was in my pack opening "prime" in Michigan where we had these strange "minis":

I think that 75 box is filled with 77 packs...as I recall, Topps reused some 75 boxes in 77..

Too many Mikes on this board, Matt! LOL..

Does Steve offer discounts on new items? I think he only does that with stuff that's been up fora while or boxes for the group rips.

The O/U on the availability of a 78 cello box is about 20 seconds if BBG is on line..lol..

    One can dream Tim!
  • I was looking at the packs. I know Steve will discount on group rip additions but that's if you request it. I'm sure there is a limitation in there somewhere. He is running a business! I hope someone picks up that 76 FB pack, if I have to pay for it I'll likely add about $100 in 70's packs to it..
  • I'd throw down for about $100 worth of packs if we did a group rip on one of the '78 wax boxes.

I seriously thought about buying a whole box myself but I have GOT to rein in the sportscard spending. To use the word "addiction" would not be out of line at this point.

The 1975 Topps Mini Wax box has a red area on the side above a blue area. The words in the red area are:

"All 660 Cards in One Series"

The words in the blue area are:

"Featuring Special 25th Anniversary Most Valuable Player Cards"

I actually have a few of these boxes (authenticated by Steve). Any interest in a group "pack" rip?

As I recall, in 1977, Topps superimposed the ad you see on the mini box on the bbce site to promote the 1977 packs.

Now I'm afraid to go to sleep or I might miss a group rip like I did the 75 rack packs. image

Based on the expressions of interest so far (and since I missed out on the 1974 box...darn) I am willing to put up some boxes of 75 Topps Minis
(authenticated at BBCE by Steve) for a group rip.

To make it fair, I won't start the thread until tomorrow morning. That way no one gets left out because of the late hour.
And I won't mention the exact time I will post it so as not to give anyone an unfair advantage.

No requests for packs will be valid until I post the thread.

We'll go at $40/pack (Steve is at $1450 for the box he has listed now, which is just over that)

Some boxes means at least 2 (and we'll see how quick they fill up, if they do, to see if its worth considering any more).

The last one sold to the group rip for $1620 (aggregated) which was discounted 10% from $1800.

Hmmm, if I go to work i won't be around to sign up for the group rip but if i don't go to work I won't have the money to pay for the packs.

Is there enough interest here for a rip of the 73, 78 and/or 75 mini box on the BBCE site? If so, we can get one going, or maybe just hold off for a while.

I think this is a mistake to attempt this, I would wait at least another week. There have been way to many rips recently, and this is huge money per pack.

    Tim,

I'd suggest holding off on the 73 Wax Box for a few weeks to give any unopened collectors a chance at an uncommon 1973
Topps wax box. There probably weren't as many of the "all series" boxes produced because Topps didn't get rid of the series
issuance until 1974. Therefore this box must have been a "test" marketing.

Also, when you look at it's price relative to any of the series boxes it seems a bit steep. That's probably because of the uncommon
"all series" nature of the box more than what might be pulled out of it.

BTW, I must admit to being somewhat torn on this box. If I were to buy it I would keep it intact, but I am not sure that being an
"all series" box is enough to justify the premium in the price. I wouldn't mind a week or so to mull that over before it gets broken
    apart and ripped.

While Steve just put the box up, I would think he'd probably discount it if it were part of a group rip. Ok, $36/pack it is.
