How great is it when a long search comes to an end?

After some time trying to find a decent 1855-O quarter I did. It is a coin I never figured was going to be hard to find. As it turns out it is really hard!

I'll let you know if and when I come to the end of my search. Which may be never in my lifetime. A hint? It's a coin that even Jack Lee never owned. image

Good pick up. I'd recently parted with my PC 35 of that issue as it was out of my main focus area. Apparently made the buyer very happy and deserved to be with all it's little seated cousins rather than all of my crummy Barbers. image

    Congrats!
In my case, it was overwhelming.....I had a number of large cents more or less on my life list; a high grade non corroded classic head of ANY date, an 1817 15 stars in VF or higher, and a 39/6 in VF. I wound up getting all 3 in one day, along with a dozen or so other neat coins, when a dealer friend gave me first shot at an old time large cent collection he had acquired. I had been looking for reasonably priced decent examples of those coins for years. I couldn't even sleep that night!

Nice 1855-O quarter, Seateddime! I agree, it is a tough coin to find in a nice undamaged grade. Usually the denticles below the date are missing or weak until you get up to a VF coin!

Heritage has only offered 17 for sale, ever.

PCGS has grade only 30 coin total, 3 in UNC & 5 in AU, 4 XF - 12 coins in XF of better?

I never realized this was such a rare coin until I tried to buy one, and looked and looked and nothing until I found 2 in AU in one deal ( along with about 1/2 the coins I still needed for my set)

October 2011 will go down as the month my Seated Quarter set really came together, a 55-O 56 s/s, 68,69,70,71,72 s and 10 more.

I think this is the hardest of the seated sets to finish (less the dollars if you include the 70-s)

How funny is it that just 2 weeks ago I emailed you to see if you had one?

It's a combination of joy and relief. My longest successful searches were four years for a nice Barber Half in MS 65, and eight years for an original AU 53 Bust $. I have several other long searches in process and I doubt I will be successful, but who knows?

Yes good find. It took me a while to find a satisfactory 1855-O also.

In the beginning (after you find it and get it) it feels quite good. Then the next challenge will come along. When I finally finished (almost - no 1878-S) my seated half dollar set about ten years ago- At first I thought I was finished collecting- but then decided to collect seated quarters and dimes. Collecting can be endless. I am nearly finished with quarters and still need a few more seated dimes-actually about 20 more. The journey can be never ending. One day, perhaps sooner than later - all my coins will be for sale- But not until I acquire all that I set out to, even if it takes another 10 years or so. Bob
