Well, for the second time, I've wasted a few minutes first finding this thread and then opening it and finding no grade from the OP.
I have nothing against blu62vette, but I've made a mental note not to open any 'GTG' threads from him again, as I would very much like to know the grade of this coin, but I'm tired of waiting.
And for others who may post 'get over it DE59, relax', believe me, I'm not upset at all, but it is (mildly) annoying that no grade has been posted yet.
Signing off this thread for good......

Dragging out any GTG for 8 days is just plain wrong.

I would have said AU-55 for the slab grade, but my grade would have been AU-50. I'm not a fan of the marks in the obverse which why my grade was lower than my guess on the slab grade.
Still I think that EF-45 is plenty conservative. I would attribute the lack of detail in the center of the obverse to strike issues, and the piece appears to have plenty of luster.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Pretty good example of how grade inflation really warps how we guess around here. Instead of judging the coin like we should based on wear/luster/etc.. we try to guess how it will be market graded by today's standards.
Since the grade has already been posted this might be meaningless by my first thought was xf45. But I figured that a TPG would market grade it as AU now days. Thus if you go around guessing a grade based on older standards you just look like an idiot to others.. even though 291fifth might be on your side.. others will just say the TPG is right and you are wrong. End of story.
Lesson 1 for me. Stick to your guns on how you think a coin should be graded. Eventually the market will swing a different way and your label might say AU55 but it will end up being XF45 to potential buyers down the road. I have to wonder when that will eventually happen. Grade deflation here we come. Guess how many points lower the label should read might be the next trend 10 years from now.

Do grading standards really change that fast?
