I can't even begin to tell you how may 1917 nickels I've gone through over the years, looking for this variety (FS-801). Finally, at the Bellaire show today, I found one! The doubling is fantastic, far more obvious than I expected. PCGS pop for all grades is 6. This is one rare buffalo!

It is always a joy when you get to find what you "were" looking for!

Oh, I plan to .
Nice find. Never knew they existed, but will be on the lookout for them now.

<< <i>So what are we looking for on this coin? I'm not familiar with doubling. >>
Look at the bottom of the letters in "E Pluribus Unum" .
Since you seem to collect them also, you "suck"!
Enjoy!
MS Buffalo
MS 1951
$2895 from dealer Sam Lukes in 1998. Sam and I were competing for it in a Teletrade auction a few years prior to that and Sam won it for I believe around $1900. I then placed it in the 2007 FUN auction where it
sold for $10,000.00! I have looked and looked for one but, personally have never found one in any grade.
Before selling it in 2007 FUN, I crossed it into an NGC MS64 holder and finally into a PCGS MS64 holder where it probably remains to this day. Any way you slice it a great variety and much rarer than the 1916/1916 for example.

Very nice! And a very tough cherrypick! I've only cherried two of these-both in about the same grade as yours in 20 years of searching. No one knows why this variety is as tough as it is-but it is!
Wait till my wife sees this.

<< <i>That's a great find.....I assume you cherry picked it ? >>
Sweet find, I have cherrypicked several 1935 DDR Buffalo's and this one you picked is just as obviou on the E Pluribus Unum.
The 1935 DDR is another one I still haven't picked after years of looking. I agree its also spectacular, and IIRC, a 65 sold for six figures (correct me if I'm wrong) a while back.
