curly's ANA report (wine, women, and cookies) brothers, pack a lunch, it's a long one.

Somehow or other, Mrs curly had gotten wind of my shenanigans at theses shows so she decided she better come along. You know, to kinda keep 'ol curly in check. Brothers, I can tell you now it didn't work. Before it was over, she was plumb wore out and settin' over at the "loney wives section" by the exhibits.
Thursday
We arrived Wednesday night, got a good night's sleep and hit the show bright eyed and bushy tailed on Thursday morning. As we were checking in, I was tapped onthe back and a fellow ANA member pointed out that I had dropped some cash. I didn't get his name but here is a shout out to you, brother.
Straight away to Angel Dee's to visit with my good friends Andy and Alynne Skrabalak. I introduced Mrs curly to them and set down to talk coin with Andy. No dice, the brother is pumped about going to watch the Penguins hockey game. So to compromise, we talked Penguin Hockey, then coin, then back to Penguin Hockey, then more coin. Setting back and conversing with Andy is a pleasure. If you get a chance, don't pass it by.
Down the aisle we go because I just gotta see my sweet Charmy aka The Penny Lady. After getting my customary big hug, I introduce her to Mrs curly. Those two hit it off and right away start planning on when they are going to pop open the first (... first??!!... ) bottle of wine. They decide on right after lunch.
Todd aka Blu62vette also sets up with Charmy and he was already busy doing the photography thing.
Next up is the fine folks Bill Shamhart aka njcoincrank and Christine Monk over at Numismatic Americana. I had never met them before but I had been watching their site and was looking forward to meeting them. I had never purchased anything from them yet they showed me an act of kindness and trust ( that I won't go into detail about ) that made me realize that these are just the kind of people that I want to deal with. Bill is one of the grading instructors at the seminar ANA puts on every year. He makes me want to sign up. Bill is also a grader at CAC. I suppose, before the day was over, we spent a good two hours total at their table talking coins and grading and we felt welcome the whole time.
As we are yakking it up with Bill and Christine, who shows up but TomB. I had been wanting to meet that brother for a long time. I wasn't long before TomB was showing me his and, not to be out done, I decided to whip out mine to show him. After a while, Christine said: "Alright boys, let's put 'em away". I really enjoyed meeting you Tom. I hope to do so again.
Over to see Julian. The brother was fixating on turning 65. I told him he was still just a snot nosed kid. In order to cheer him up, Mrs curly offers to buy a gold piece off him that he had for $47,000.00. I damn near died!
We then ran into that Feld feller that everyone likes so well. I apologized to him for going against his advice and buying a coin sight unseen and then regretting it. Live and learn.
As we were leaving for lunch at the Sonoma Grill for lunch, we run into Rick Snow's capable assistant, Karin. She invites us to Eagle Eye for dessert. You know this old man ain't turnin' down that offer.
As we are seated at The Sonoma Grill, I am so pumped about coin that I pull out my cell and call my good friend Robec out in California. After about 20 minutes, our food arrives and I hang up. Mrs curly has her arms folded and with a level gaze tell me that "When you and Bob Campbell get to talking coin you are worse than two teenage girls talking about boys".
After lunch we go buy a bottle of wine for Charmy and off we go to Eagle Eye to get some of Karin's chocolate chip cookies. As a rule, when I ripped into Karin's cookies before, it's one in each fist and one in the jaw but Mrs curly said that she ain't puttin' up with me actin' like that. I get one cookie and that's all!
A few gulps of wine at Charmy's and off I wander to see Rick DeFrances at Certified Assets Management. I pick up a beautiful 37-D PCGS 67 CAC Oregon Trail.
We then run into Laura and I introduce her to Mrs curly. She was busy at the Heritage table, but she was gracious and chatted with us for a few minutes.
The day is gone and I am too tired for the auction. We head for our room.
Friday
This is our last day and there are some more people that I want to visit. Mrs curly buys some magazines and says I'm on my own.
I head over to HLRC to speak with Harry Laibstain. While there, I get to talking with Dr. Pete Shireman. He has a set of Barber Halves over at the PCGS table. I go over to look and B. J. Searls offers to open the display case if I want to examine any. Is that kindness or what?
Back to Eagle Eye and have a nice chat with Karin and Rick. Rick shows me the coins that he picked up at the auction.
I head to my friend Doug Winter to discuss a collecting problem that I have. What a mind that brother has when it comes to gold coins. I ain't just talkin' 18 and 19 century gold. If it's a gold coin, he knows about it. I was very impressed. He gave me pretty much all of Friday afternoon.
I got to visit with Jay Cline about the old days back in Dayton. While there, we asked a browser if he could find the cowboy on the reverse of a Standing Liberty Quarter. Jay showed him where it is. Speaking of the cowboy, Bill Shamhart at Numismatic Americana showed me where the shark is on the reverse of the Bridgeport Commemorative. Think you can find it? It's there, plain as day.
Is it just me or is there more and more women working the shows anymore. I'm not talking about setting back and doing the paperwork. I mean getting right up in the action and talking coin with the customer. Mar327, Christine, Shealyne, Laura, Charmy, Karin, Alynne and all the others that I didn't get a chance to meet, you ladies rock! Charmy, I can't begin to tell you how much you have added to my coin show experiences through the last few years. I know that if you are there, I'm getting a hug and a glass of wine and an opportunity to talk coin. Now I ask you what can be better than that?
Thank you, Lord for making me a coin collector.
Every man is a self made man.

Loved your report!
Also, you are now on my coin "I want to meet" list. You sound exactly like the kind of people I want to spend time with. (Mrs. Curly does too!)

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

This had me worried for a second!
Great report!
TomB, Bill Shamhart and Doug Winter are all among my favorite coin people - nice people, tons of great knowledge - and willing to share!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

It was Christine's and my pleasure to meet the two of you this past week. Thank you for the kind words. It's always fun to talk coins with one so passionate as you.
One of the benefits of a show like this one (good, bad, whatever you want to call it) is the ability to spend some time sharing, learning, and building relationships.
Christine and I look forward to seeing you and Mrs Curly soon.

It was a pleasure to meet you at the show. Glad you liked my Barber Half set on display at PCGS. People are what make a coin show and you are a fine fellow!
You should write a book. I would buy a copy.
Look forward to meeting you one day.
