Good coins were hard to find.

    The services were too tight.

    Dealers charged too much.

    Collectors lowballed dealers.

The convention hall food was mediocre.

    Parking was expensive and inconvenient.

    The exhibits were poorly lit.

    The loudspeaker interrupted frequently.

ANA gossip filled the bourse floor.

And all the dealers left early.

Good coins were easy to find.

    The services were too loose.

    Dealers charged too little.

    Collectors hugged dealers.

The convention hall food was outstanding and inexpensive.

    Parking was inexpensive and convenient.

    The exhibits were adequately lit.

    The loudspeaker was broken.

ANA governors filled the bourse floor.

And all the dealers left the best coins to the collectors.

    2. Seated Liberty and Barber series strong, neutral or weak?

    3. Classic Commems in MS-67. How was pricing?

    4. Silver 90% coinage, hot, neutral, or cold?

Just to clarify a point that is apparently in contention. All you show attendees are NOT there for YOUR benefit...you are there for OURS. So please don't think about coins for yourself first, or selling coins if you are a dealer...collect gossip, review exhibits, try to start some trouble and then report it back here IMMEDIATELY. Also, stop by the CRO booth (and any others you see fit) every half-hour and ask them if they have posted their show reports yet. Find Charmy and get the Wine List. Think of us poor homies who can't be there. Now get out there and win one for the Gipper!!! image

I have heard that many dealers are holding back on going so that they can attend the Silver Dollar Show in St. Louis next week. image

Show was bigger than I thought. Crowd was sparse at first but improved later in the morning. I bought coins. I sold coins and met a few forum members. Charmy had wine but I didn't get any. That's all.

I can't speak for anyone else but I was at my table at 8:05 and stayed till 5:25. The traffic was pretty light in the morning, mostly dealers ( but substantial volume ) but increased towards noon. Kranky stopped by and said hello, good to see him as always. I had a CWT I was shopping around the floor and received offers from 80.00 to 150.00 ( the dealer who offered 150 pulled out a 2001 list and told me he was giving me full retail) but my gut was telling me to low when a friend recommended Steve Hayden from Charleston SC... This guy is great, straight up and honest. He told me the piece was a rarer token with a retail of 325-350 and he would like to be in at $250 SOLD everybody is entitled to make a profit and honesty goes a long way.
The only case of sticker shock I had all day was when the cashier said $13.00 for 2 dried up hot dogs and a coke image
Day one and the nut is cracked for the show... I think tomorrow I'll go with the chicken.

Hi Everyone, don't worry, I will try to fullfill all your show report desires with lots of photos and perhaps some tasty tidbits, and of course, the wine report - soon!

Wei, even though I do love my wine, I feel that I should wait until after breakfast to open a bottle or people might think I like wine a little too much! However, a couple wonderful forum members (thank you Curly and Mar!) have brought me bottles of wine plus I had already picked up a couple bottles at the beginning of the show at a cute little liquor store across from the hotel - so we have plenty to go around!

  • Here the ANA governor trip report so far:

Wednesday -- Plane landed at 3:15, got to the hotel at 4:30. Made it to the convention center by 5:15, said a few hellos and then off to the Welcome Cruise. Met Charmy, had an enjoyable dinner, quickly hit the casino then back to the hotel to watch the Cards win Game 3 of the NLCS.

Thursday -- Made it to the show by 9:45 for a 10am Exhibit Judges meeting. Judged until Noon. Ate lunch with fellow governor Scott Rottinghaus then back to the hotel for a short bit. Back to the convention center by 3:15 to review exhibit judge scores. Then wandered the bourse for a bit before our 6:30pm Board of Governors executive session which ended at 1:05am. Now it's back to the hotel for some sleep. Oh yeah, it was also my 40th birthday!

Well that's not good enough, I demand more. Sure glad I couldn't go.

The show was again very quiet today. I noticed as I was walking to the convention center this morning that the parking garage close to the show was now closed except to monthly lease customers. They were directing traffic around the block (almost three blocks away to park your car I heard!). I don't know if this had any impact, but the bourse was sure quiet to start the day. It started to pick up around noon and there were more people (at least to my eye) than there was on Thursday but sales (again only from my perspective) were much slower than on Thursday.

The food a the convention center is frankly terrible. Tomorrow I will certainly go and find somewhere decent to eat lunch. The hot dog I had today reminded me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer eats the 3 year old hot dog at the movie theatre he is promoting. I am fairly sure this hot dog was in the "cart" since before Wednesday.

The coffee for some reason is actually fairly decent, though I may have convinced myself of that as there does not seem to be a close place nearby the convention center to get a good cup. I did see some DD cups in the morning, but no idea where it is.

I went to the message center twice certain they had called my name, but I wasn't even close. I think they need to turn the volume up (when have you ever heard that in a show report!?!).

Maybe Saturday will bring some more excitement.

Checked out the show on my lunch hour (my office is two blocks away). It was pretty slow from what I could see. Got to see my buddy ptvetter and got to meet cranky again. I was surprised to see how slow it was.... Maybe the weekend will get better. As for food, close to the convention center, try August Henry's and Tonic. There is a Damons Two blocks away in the USX Tower... The Fish Market is in the hotel next to the center... All good choices.

As per my question a few days ago about why the show was Thursday Friday and Saturday is the percise reason for slow attendance . Unless your retired or have a day off during the week those days and hours are inconvenient . Saturday should be alot better.

Not there, but my rep bought a great gold dollar, and I got another capped bust half.

The auction results for gold look very good, for the consignors
