What do you make of this $20G?

Opinions? It's not mine and I'm not interested in buying it. It looks suspicious to me. Is that putty?
It's in an old PCGS holder, FWIW, and being offered for sale.

I knew it would happen.
What grade is it?
Lance.
It looked like a low grade unc to me...so 60 sounds right to me. The coin doesn't do much for me, but I would think it's real and OK being in a PCGS holder.
<< <i>No, but I don't know Gold and trust PCGS. I would not buy Gold raw or in another holder other than PCGS.

I think there was a thread a while ago that was talking about how there are a lot of puttied gold coins in PCGS holders.

You mean this one?
It looks like a 60/61 coin to me. I do not see any evidence of putty in the photo, but that does not mean that it is not there.

<< <i>Look fine to me. The recessed areas are protected and retain their original mint frost and luster while the higher areas are unprotected and have lost their frost/luster due to rubbing and scuffing from handling. Hence, the MS60 grade. >>
I agree totally. Just a typical well scuffed up unc $20 Lib. And at this price level there's no reason to go for the putty can as there is no real price advantage to a 61 or 62.
And you would need a gallon of putty to make this into a 64. Would say it has orig surfaces as well.

As for blind trust in an opinion....oh well.
Alan, I don't see anything wrong in my statement at all. I do trust PCGS and said like most others that it's OK. It's not a coin I would buy unless it was a really hard to find dime and/or dime variety. Too scuffy and I don't like the carbon spot. But the coin is what it is!
