1833 Bust dime (w/grading poll)

lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,608 ✭✭✭✭✭
Recently acquired this one in a swap with a forum member (for some fossil shark teeth).

The previous owner was asking $75 for it. I had considerably less than that invested in the fossils (which had been found by a local buddy of mine). So on a whim, I offered a trade. Was rather surprised when he went for it, but now he's happy and I'm happy, so all's well that ends well, I guess.

PS- because of some dark toning on the rim and my putting the coin on a black background, it looks a little out of round. That's just the way the pictures got cropped. The coin does not have a rim hit there or a bend in it.

I just put 'em on black 'cause that's what I do with my others.

    Thanks, BTW. image

For the record, I was torn between F15 and VF20 for the technical grade, so I bowed out on this poll and just did the neutral/results only vote.

Understandable. I was actually torn between those two grades initially, but felt that there was enough strength in the wing detail and in the hair to bump it to VF-20 level.

    handsome coin there Rob! image

I'm in the 15 camp from the picture, but in hand I think it could be better

Reminded me of other coins I have in F+. More wear than detail.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Sorry I voted F-15. Years ago it would have graded vg-8 at best. Nice coin but I think that VF is a stretch-You may get VF20-30 from NGC however. Bob

I voted F-15, but it has some claims to a 20.

I voted 20, but it might be because I was more critical than most on your last one. image
