Potential ANA Board of Director candidates..to urge to consider running

tcmitssrtcmitssr Posts: 1,570 ✭✭✭
Just tossing some names out for quality people to consider running on a slate.

1. Laura Sperber - already declared
2. Warren Mills - Simply the best
3. Don Willis - PCGS should know how to clean up the ANA
4. Harlan Berk - He just received the ANA's second most prestigious award, who better
5. Doug Winter - Has the trust of many
6. Kathleen Duncan - Runs an honest company
7. Mr. Commem from this board - regular poster
8. Gregg Bingham - a top collector and businessman

These are just the first names to easily pop into mind. I'm sure we can come up with enough quality to assure that the present Board is completely voted out of office in the next election.

Can we nominate and vote for them even if they don't want to be on the Board? imageimage

Ask Greg Lyon about submitting a bylaw change to permit write-ins on the ballot!

(I doubt he'd do this one either, IMHO).

With the heat the current board is getting you think someone will run just because they are urged?

I think several top notch people have been considering it for some time now...and this may be enough to get them seriously considering it and having them "clear their calendars" for the next election.

As much as I don't personally care for Laura, you get seven people elected who have her "fix it and make it right" attitude and the rest of the Board can be cardboard cutouts who are also elected, IMHO.

Have you talked to any of those you listed to see if there is any interest on their part?

Run for the Board and see if you can beat Laura and some other heavyweights who may already be considering such a run, in that case.

Just like a pro-sports team.......if one were to stack the deck with all superstars, egos would come into play and the desired result wouldn't occur.

I think there are some great names on the list, but I think that it wouldn't be as successful as you allude to.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Maybe not, but it couldn't hurt to try, would it? Could they be any worse, IMHO, than what we have now?

Only problem is, what if this group was informed of all the details regarding the recent termination of
the executive director, and agreed with the current board? What then?

I don't see Tom DeLorey's name on that list.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

Considering the state of things over there, a few names come to mind:

Jonathan Hefferlin - 'Guru' of what used to be Jonathan's Coins in Inglewood.
Mark Goldberg - Brother of Ira and Larry; they used to work together. Mark is known for his "get to the point" evaluation of coins and related 'discussions' with customers
Dwight Manley - Very knowledgeable about gold bars
Don Kagin - See Dwight Manley
Bob Patterson - Ask Greg Margulies about this guy
Robert Allen Stanford - You can 'google' him

    Greetings,

As far as looking at the list above, I can give you my 2 cents on this:

    Recommended:
    Laura Sperber
    Doug Winter

    Not Recommended:
    Don Willis
    Harlan Berk

The other potential candidates - I cannot give an opinion as I don't know them enough.

As a candidate from the 2007 election, the key thing, then and now, is change. In spite of the fiasco with Larry Shepherd, the new leadership is really starting on the wrong foot. But a lot can happen in two years time, so we will have to wait and see. As for myself, I am not ready to run for the ANA board anytime soon, as I am concentrating my energies on running for President of the Illinois Numismatic Association in 2012.

FYI, Mark passed away a couple of years ago. He was Larry's brother. Ira is a cousin.

I doubt the OP actually knows the nine people he named that well. Of that nine person wish list let's just say I wouldn't want to be in the same room when they are all together. Some of those nine aren't all on speaking terms with one another.

I think one seat on the board should be reserved for a CU Forum representative. Elected by a forum poll, of course. I nominate RYK image

Working for the man, RYK could obtain very little free time to serve on any board.

I agree with a few names that have been mentioned, but since I am not a current member, my point is moot.

Maybe that respondent was one of those Forum members a while back who thought Longacre and RYK were the same person. That of course has been proven wrong.
Just for clarification, Longacre and RYK are two different people. I have met both of them and can definitively attest to that. imageimageimage

Once I retire, I would consider running for the ANA board. But that is at least 9 years away.
