Need some help directing me to information about a medal which I can't find anything about. Even Google search seems to show nothing. Images below. Any help appreciated.

Yes, I think those types were available at Cape Kennedy gift shops. It's a series. "Ride, Sally Ride!"

Take Care, Dave
bring back some happy, proud and sad memories
for the old lady and myself.
We had just moved into our first apartment, we
were in our early 20's and I was watching the
news July 3, 1982 and saw that Space Shuttle
Columbia was gonna land at Edwards AFB in the
morning, and President Reagan would be there,
So we packed up the Pinto and headed out to
Edwards AFB, about 80 miles from us, we arrived
there about midnight and were in a like Field of
Dreams car procession, 10 miles of taillights ahead
of us and another 10 miles of headlights behind us
AFB personel guiding us to our parking spots, where
we parked an slept in the car, if you could sleep, it
was a pretty festive atmosphere, I heard that there
were about a hundred thousand in attendance.
Any how about 9am we heard a double sonic boom
and seconds later we saw Columbia glide on in
acompanied by two chaser jets that veered off right
before Columbia landed.
It was cool, historical and a Proud American Moment.
But the show was'nt over, I guess Columbia had to
be safely on the ground before the 747 carrying
Space Shuttle Challenger could take off for delivery
in Texas, it took off and circled the crowd twice maybe
three times and it was awsome to see this sight.
Like I said that day was a happy and proud moment
I'll never forget, and it makes me sad when I think of
the fate of Columbia and Challenger and there crews,
I still get a tears in my eyes when I do.

Hoping that someone would remember that the Soviets had the early lead over us in the space race.
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
