Doesnt appear to be market acceptable toning, if it gets slabbed your in luck
In addition i was taught blues and purples dont appear togther typically, like a tell tale sign of AT? could be wrong on that one, would need better pics to tell.

<< <i>Interesting...lots of gun shy opinions on my raw toneage. haha. I guarantee pcgs ms-63 first time submission. In fact, I would bet on it...any takers? Nothing big...maybe a donation to the YN program? It appears I have lots to teach the forum toned coin newbies.

Coin APPEARS to be UNC. I just never understand why people pay premiums for toning.......
Good Luck on getting it into a PCGS problem free slab.

Eye appeal man; it's all about eye appeal. A really nice toner has eye appeal that goes through the roof.

The first thing that should have tipped you off is the date. The year 1890 is not known as a date flush with nice toners. A 63 with legit toning like that should have brought a lot more than you paid. Just sayin.
im game, i say it will not holder pcgs ms63.........
side bet,.....Genuine
<< <i>Coin APPEARS to be UNC. I just never understand why people pay premiums for toning....... Perhaps because toners are nicer and more interesting than plain ole blast white coins?

Its a matter or PERSPECTIVE. Some people like Toners. Some like Blast White. I like both, I just understand why toners command such premiums.
<<< The first thing that should have tipped you off is the date. The year 1890 is not known as a date flush with nice toners. >>>
BAJJERFAN is correct. Here's my modest 1890-P in 64 with some color on it.
Just my opinion

I think you should take a good image before trying to teach anything. You cant judge anything from that picture, not color, not grade, just a plain shot in the dark. Its not suprising that you are getting the types of opinions so far.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
The reverse appears to be AT but I'm no expert.
Just my 2¢
Also, although admittedly not the best image, I have 62s that look a whole lot less bagged/abraded...
Well, just Love coins, period.

<< <i>Yikes, AT to me but some on these boards will "NT" anything.

The 1890 is generally known to afford a lot of baggy looking coins and as such there is a BIG price jump from 64 to 65
I will take you up on your "guarantee" and "bet". I will bet the coin either doesn’t receive a numerical grade, or if it does, grades less than MS63, the first time. It looks AT (and quite possibly less than MS63) to me. So I have two ways to win. And the loser donates $100 to the ANA's YN program. Are you willing to back up your braggadocio?
Sincerely,
Mark Feld>>
Anyway, I will have to take you all up on a Group bet then...My max is $100 to YN vs all the naysayers...you all can take the other side of it in pieces or even more. Either way, I win, as I love the hobby and want the YNs to have a little more budget money.
Let's have fun! I will send it in with my next Economy shipping with other horribly AT Morgans and such. lol.

Get better pics and I might change my mind but I doubt it.
I missed this earlier from the OP's second post:
It appears I have lots to teach the forum toned coin newbies.

I will, buddy.
that blue in the area of the ear bothered me too an the overall cleaning look.
Eric
<< <i>Sorry,AT.Chris, your 1890 is 3rd nicest color coin i have seen on one,but still alot for the grade.VERY tough date with nice color though. >>
Thanks Lloyd.

I raise my bet to $200 to the YN. Please add your name and promise to this thread? This is all in good fun, folks. No mean intentions.
Doug
you posted I'd say AT and MS60/61 at best.
A couple of years ago I attended a class through PCGS at the Vegas show. Hour long or so and
the presenter (I don't remember who, shame on me) said that if the toning looks painted on it's AT.
This looks just like a paint brushed dollar.
