The Central Division race is sick...Chicago went a respectable 5-3-2 in their last 10 and still lost ground to all 3 teams in the race by at least 4 points.
I doubt it. Raleigh may not be a hockey hotbed, but it is the only game in town. And the Raleigh-Durham market is continually growing. So, Karmanos may have the only game in town in a market that will be bigger than Hartford very soon. It grew almost 42% from 2000 to 2010.

Yes, it's insane. St. Louis is finally competitive again and Detroit is playing awesome at home. I'm happy about that because my wife will go to the games as long as Detroit is playing well. We live 4 hours away from the Joe, so we can really only go to weekend games. Already bought a bunch of tickets for upcoming games. Luckily, we live in Traverse, which is where the Wings have training camp, so we do get to see them then.
Typical for the Hurricanes. We lose to the Islanders for the third time in a row. Then we come back and finish a four game season sweep of the Boston Bruins. Why can't we get up for the games against the lousy teams?
I'm sure that has nothing to do with you being a Canes fan....but you are mistaken. Orpik is nothing if not teeming with awesomeness. This is his 9th year in the league and he's perpetually in the top 5 in the league for hits, so he's bound to have one bad one. Not an excuse, it's just the odds are overwhelming that one bad hit will turn up when you average 250+ hits per year. And in 9 years Orpik has been a vastly clean player compared to others in his position. I mean Mark Fistric and Andy Sutton have compiled more cheap hits in a half of a season than Orpik has in 9 years. As much as I love Tim Gleason, I'm sure a lot of Leafs fans said the same things you're calling out Orpik for when Gleason decked Kulemin (while Kulemin had his gloves on) and subsequently broke his nose coming out that scrum last year. I'll assume you didn't take to CU or any odd Canes blog to site your disapproval for his actions. Anyway, the best part of the Orpik clip was Paille got up as if he was going to challenge a fight, realized it was Orpik, and then skated away.

I stand by my statements. When I saw Orpik hoist the Cup a couple of years ago I felt that it needed to be sanitized afterwards. He is a walking, talking piece of crap. If someone put Lemieux into the boards like that, that player would have been suspended forever. Erik Cole has never been the same player since that hit. And it wasn't borderline. It was as cheap as the McSorley or Bertuzzi hit. So, you can have your opinion and I will have mine. But, eventually, someone will blindside him and give him a similar injury, and I will stand up and cheer.
I think it would be markedly short sighted for us not to give the St. Louis Blues organization a shout-out for their role in celebrating Hockey Day in America on NBC by ensuring that every casual or novice hockey fan forced to watch this Ambien on Ice team - would go back to ignoring the sport for the rest of their lives. I'm also uncertain which dumpster in back of the local Purina factory Ryan Reaves was conceived in, but it's nice to see they've replaced the drooler known as Cam Janssen with someone with an even lower hockey IQ. Well done St Louis.
I had the good fortune to play in some old barns that no longer exist while playing into my late teens. Now it's coming full circle as my nephew Jack is playing for their championship at Joe Louis Arena tomorrow night. Interestingly enough he will be playing against Lidstrom's and Holmstrom's kids who play for Novi.

The Canes actually won an overtime game. We've been HORRIBLE in OT this year. If we were just .500 in OT we'd be in the playoff chase. Still hard to believe we swept Boston, won the season series against the Capitals and are buried.
Figured I'd dig this one up with the playoffs in full gear....I'm not sure what to attribute it to, but the violence in this year's playoffs seems way out of the norm.
The NHL must be crapping their pants that Pittsburgh, Detroit, New Jersey and Chicago are all behind in their series....if they have Los Angeles, Phoenix, Florida, and Nashville in the 2nd round, ratings will drop very quickly.
I agree. I've seen more aggressive hitting than I have seen in years. Usually, there are one or two hits during the playoffs that are of the suspendable type. I've seen quite afew already. The last Pens/Flyers game was a hitfest. Last night's shot on Hossa was tough! Scott Stevens made a living on shots like that, but it was legal in those days.
With a lot of the more dangerous teams already sent packing, or one game from being eliminated, I'll be crushed if the Bruins lose Game 7 on Wednesday night. Another run to the Cup is lining up for them if they can just get past Washington.
I dunno. There are some pretty stout teams still in there. The Flyers and Kings didn't just upset the Pens and Canucks - they dominated them. Those teams are not to be underestimated. The Kings have been on about a six week run in which they have been almost unbeatable. St. Louis is getting no break by playing them next.

Keep losing. Then Howard Balwdin can swoop in and bring them back to Hartford.

Trade deadline approaching....suddenly the Bruins need frontline help big time.
Lots of rumors floating around about Thomas or Rask being used to bring in a scorer.
