Who else is tired of the US Mint playing games with re-pricing?
When we are uptrend, it happens within a day
When we are down trend, it takes them FOREVER to reprice.
Come 'on USM, do your job and publish those reduced prices, it isnt that hard.
And please dont tell me "they are waiting for the trend to show itself" BS BS BS BS BS BS

The mint really needs to get a real time on line pricing system if it's selling based on the spot price as opposed to actual costs at time of production.
My $.02.
Oil goes up one day and the price goes up at the pumps next day.
Oil goes down and you never see an immediate price drop at the pumps.

The USM constantly strives to be a World Class Organization.....
Well, things like this doesnt help them achieve that status.....
More customer focus needed. Quicker turn around for repricing. Wow, how about this novel idea.....reprice immediately......like many other bullion shops...
If it sits in your cart too long, it's repriced!!!
if you haven't shipped it, reprice it!!!!!!!!!
a product that hasn't been shipped should be reduced in price to the new price point.
and before you counter my point------it doesnt work both ways....
its called price protection in the retail world, and many companies do it. (and since this so-called bullion is sold at such a high premium, forget about the bullion related answer)!!!

Not with my tax money thanks. When you lock in a proce at one of the bullion shops it's locked when you buy it, not when they ship it.

None of your tax money supporting any deal at the USM
They are hedged for the PM exposure - and the product they sell is so far removed (due to HUGE premiums) from bullion, you should just call them retail numismatic products.
Absolutely not like a bullion shop. Not even close.
Exit bunker, enter Matrix. LOL
my point was that premiums at the USM are so huge, these are not priced like bullion any longer.
years ago ---yes they were. not now.
they are just like any other numismatic product at the USM. might as well be repricing state quarter spoons as well.

Couldn't agree more.
I called the Mint Customer Service Help Line this morning on a credit card expiration issue
and she explained to me that must have been why the USM was holding up my order for
the 2011 ASE's Mint [ "W" ] version.
I explained to her that I had already received my shipment - and as it turned out, I had
received my Program shipment - but not my regular order. I cancelled my regular order,
changed my credit card info, and asked about the Gettysburg 5oz Special Edition order.
She said my order was in Quque and it would be shipped once they are released. She mentioned
that they were being repriced; I mentioned that I knew about the repricing. I asked how that would
affect me.
Basically, I'll be paying my originally agreed price of $279.95 - plus shipping. I asked if I could cancel
and she said I would have to do that on line as a separate transaction. She gave no indication as to the new
amount.
Once the ATB's are repriced - and the availability is known, I'll revisit the Mint's site and change my order.
Until then, I'll sit tight.

But would they also have the right/obligation to reprices higher if metals go up after your order?

Read my earlier comment on Price Protection. It only works one way---down.

Even in the unlikely event that mint did that, some people would still find a reason to complain.
<< <i>I no longer buy anything from the mint. >>
It would be different if they had anything unique to offer. I don't necessarily want gems on a coin, but some truly original designs might be nice. I do like some of the ATB coin designs.
I've got everything I need - almost.
Britannia, Maple, Osterreich, Eagle, Fantasy coins and whatever else gets in my way.

Are you sure they do this if the stuff is in stock?

<< <i>gold was repriced last week, correct? Was it that silver wasn't repriced quickly? --app >>
Based on their pricing policy in the FAQ area of their website, it appears that the Mint does not reprice silver items. First off, the Mint has no competition except the customers that they sell to. Many people don't seem to be buying their stuff as keepers, but rather more as flippers. If the 25th anniv. set will bring $500 in the aftermarket, I'd gladly pay $250 for one.
Maybe the whiners should ask the mint for bulk quotes or pool their needs to try to get better pricing.
<< <i>wouldn't that be something if they just didnt sell anymore of the proof and burnish >>
As in you mean "anymore" in that the Mint is going to stop offering them or "any more" as in folks like you are going to stop purchasing them? 99.99% of the Mint's customers don't read message boards and likely couldn't care less about a couple dollar move [up or down] in the price of ASEs. Profits from sales attributable to this board probly cover the Mint's phone and janitorial supplies bills and not much else.
Frankly, because of the problems with spotting I have little interest in Mint products [esp. the silver ones] outside of those that can be flipped for a profit; hence my flippant/cavalier attitude towards your plight.

I meant this year.
<< <i>Looks as if everything silver, except the ASE's are once again available. In addition, the Plats 1 oz proof are have been repriced to $1792. >>
Hmm the silver proof set I thought was out is back in but the price looks the same 67.95 and the hockey pucks still no reprice as far as I can see. Enjoy
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.
