Attn: Jon Jones fans

I have managed to aquire 2 of the 4 printing plates for 2011 Topps Finest UFC base card #83. Yellow and cyan are now owned by the biggest Bones fan on these boards. Any leads to locating both the black and magenta plates will be handsomely rewarded!

To have all 4 of the base card printing plates of the "Michael Jordan of MMA" would tickle me pink.....or magenta....or cyan......or, well you get it. image

Seriously.......I would not call myself a huge fan, but I know the bigger names: Liddell, St Pierre, Penn, Hughes, Jackson, Florian, Silva, Evans, Lesner, etc. I have never even heard of Jones.

There is just about noone on the planet who wouldnt know who Michael Jordan is. Maybe calling him the MJ of MMA might be over doing it a bit??????

If you have never even heard of Jon Jones then you have not been watching the UFC for the past 12 months. Anyone who actually follows MMA closely would probably agree with my assesment of this 24 year old CHAMPION as being a very real candidate of the MJ of MMA.
  • The guy is good but to call him the Jordan of MMA may be a bit premature. He just had his FIRST title defense this past weekend. He has a ways to go before passing up some other fighters(silva,st.pierre,ect.)

The assumption is very premature. GSP and Silva have proven themselves much more than Jones.

Edit - He types faster than I do.

Sounds more like the Stephen Strasburg of MMA.
  • Congrads on the printing plates I hope you complete the rainbow! Would make an awesome collection to have them all.

Rashad Evans is gonna rape Bones.

J/K but Jon hasn't been around enough yet to compare him to MJ as mentioned. The person at the top of the UFC changes so dang often that unless Jones can change what normally happens he won't be anything special 2 years from now.

I think he is a hell of a fighter so maybe I will need to pickup a black or magenta printing plate of #83 for the personal collection. image

Jones turned 24 a couple months ago. Here are his last 5 wins:

Rampage, Shogun, Bader, Matyushenko, Vera. He has lost just once and that was after he was disqualified for almost literally killing Matt Hamill with elbows.

Arguments could be made that both Rampage and Shogun have consistantly been top 5 ranked LHW fighters for the past 5-7 years. Anyone who watched those 2 fights saw a man beating a child.....they werent even close. Thats how good this kid is.

Anderson Silva is AWESOME! But lets look at his last 5 wins in his weight class:

Okami, Belfort, Sonnen, Maia, and Leites. Sure, theres a couple of "B" level fighters in there, but nowhere near the competition that Jones has recently faced. Add to this that the UFC MW division is now pretty much cleared out AND Silva has fought twice at 205....including an impressive win over former champ Forrest Griffin. That all adds up to one possibility......Anderson vs Jones in a superfight. Will it happen? Sure hope so! And what happens to Jon Jones stock if he walks through the pound for pound greatest fighter of all time? Then, lets not forget that Jones could easily move up to HW and be ultra competitive there as well.

This kid is just 24, but already holds a who's who resume of wins. And he is the youngest UFC champion in history to boot. The UFC LHW division belt has been a game of hot potato for the past 3 years. Thats all over as long as Jones stays at 205......just like what happened when GSP arrived in the WW division, and Anderson in the MW division. Its gonna be a LONG time before this kid loses a fight!

Oh I agree he is a beast, but it just seems like somehow, someway something will happen and he will lose to either Evans or whoever he fights after Evans. Why, just because it seems like no one can hold onto the title in the UFC for any length of time anymore.

I would love to see him win out for the next few years but I just don't see it happening. Depending on what sort of odds I can get again Jones I will be laying a little money against him over his next few fights. Why, because the public will be on Jones way too much and there will be value on the person fighting Jones because anything can happen.
  • Rampage is a joke.. lol. He has no ground game and relies only on power punches and ko's. He's old, washed up and I'd even consider him a low B to C level fighter. Same with Shogun OLD. Unfortunately the UFC will never have the top guys get into the same weight class and fight each other(silva, gsp). Let's see what happens with rashad and bones. Rashad''s had a questionable jaw ever since Michida knocked him out. I predict if Evans can get Bones on the ground with his superior wrestling skills he may be able to win. Standing up he's gonna get crushed.

This is for MBMiller.....or anyone else who has been under a rock for the past 12 months regarding MMA. You are in for a real treat! image

Too early to call him the best ever?
  • One more thing Forest Griffin is nothing more than the UFC punching bag that everyone abuses. LOL he is horrible.

Who is the better wrestler, Hamill or Evans? Not fighter, just purely wrestler? Hamill has the edge on Evans. Yet Hamill was dominated in the wrestling dept against Bones. In fact, Jones has not lost a single clinch with anyone he has fought so far. Rampage is considered a top level wrestler as well. I dont see how Evans can win. Hes not gonna out wrestle Jones, and even if he does end up on top in a scramble, Jones ground game is 5x what Evans has to offer in Jiu Jitsu. If it stays up, Evans will get Koed. Jones has an 11 inch reach advantage on Rashad. Alot of people forget that Jones was a collegiate wrestling champion as well.

Jones is stronger than Rashad. Hes quicker. He is far more creative with attacks. And he has a better stand up game. All Rashad MIGHT have over Jones is wrestling.....and that might not even be the case.

In the past 4 years he has wins over Shogun, Rampage, Franklin and Tito. I wouldnt exactly call him a "punching bag".
  • Forest got ko'd by a baby puch from Silva, he eats punches all day hence the "punching bag" nickname. As for who's the better wrestler that is just your opinion. I personally think Rashad has the advantage there. Evans has never fought Hammil so you really can't say who's the better wrestler between those two. We'll just have to wait and see after the fight who gets to come on here and say I told you so!!! lol. I'm looking forward to the PPV how much longer do we have to wait?????

Early 2012 is my guess. Then Machida in late summer....then hopefully Anderson Silva in a superfight in late 2012!!!

As Matt Miller stated, maybe a little too much credit. Many people who NEVER follow basketball know who Michael Jordan is. I doubt ANYONE who never followed MMA knows who Jon Jones is. (I agree he is an AWESOME fighter.)
    STAY HEALTHY!

Since 90% of the world's population knows what the sport of basketball is.....and perhaps 90% of the world has no clue what MMA even is.....its easy to make the above statement.

However.....to the MMA "world" (its hard core fans)....Jon Jones is emerging as the sport's Jordan FWIW. He just turned 24 and is heads and shoulders above anyone else in the sport as far as dominance in his weight class. Watch how badly he beat Shogun. Neither GSP nor Anderson Silva have put in performances like that against that level of competition. They are both highly talented fighters, and both the top of their classes.....but Jones is just so much higher than his next closest competitor in a weight class thats by far the deeper in talent than either WW or MW.

LHW....205....Jones' weight class is considered the marquee class in MMA. He is the greatest fighter by far in that class. Thats how I have drawn the comparrison.

The kid is good, and I believe he is the real deal...however, I'm not ready to compare him to the likes of GSP, Silva, Penn, Hughes, and Liddell yet...much less MJ. I would venture more people here have heard of Royce Gracie than Jon Jones. That may change someday though. The upcoming Heavyweight title fight on FOX could help open the sport of MMA up to a more "mainstream" audience.

or sixth from the top.....this should keep the thread going for awhile, now everyone can argue whether or not the MMA and UFC and all the other fights are sports or choreographed entertainment....an argument which I will not partake in since I've honestly never watched any of these events....
