Anyone who watches Bar Rescue knows Jon Taffer goes around the country taking decrepit bars and turns them into successful and profitable establishments.

If such a like minded businessman numismatist where to look at your holdings and collection what would you imagine he would do with it, if anything at all, to correct what you've accumulated over the years?

Businesses are meant to be profitable, but collections should make you happy. You can't just tell someone what they should like more. I suppose if someone had damaged coins and didn't know it you could try and explain the problem, but maybe they like the coins. I had a guy recently buy a cleaned chopmarked dollar who asked if he should remove it from the PCGS holder because some moisture might be trapped inside, which caused the chopmark to tarnish, and he was afraid that would happen to the rest of the coin. I had to explain that the cleaning took away all the tarnish, and the only original part of the coin was the chopmark. But, he likes shiny...

Coin collecting is a hobby, a personal endeavor. As such, it should reflect the collector's interests, not the 'cookie cutter' concept of some hobby designer. What a terrible idea... Well, I bet there are a few that would like it... just like those that depend on others opinions rather than acquiring skills and having confidence in their own judgement. Cheers, RickO
