Looking for PR69DCAM 1oz. eagles, where to go?

I'm converting some funds to gold, and I've always liked the series. Any opinons on who/where to look? Apmex? This grade is only of interest to me to keep prices somewhat closer to spot, and to a satisfy a twinge of collector interest. I have zero interest in coins labled 70 for this endeavor - unless they too are sold near spot.

Common date MS double eagles would be a possibility for me as well, but would prefer the proof 1oz. eagles simply for the design/enjoyment factor.

I'll be at the Philadelphia show this week as well.

MS69 AGEs would be a bit cheaper. same beauty, not as shiny. I'd start with Jason Fishman (forum member here) over at moderncoinmart.com. I like their prices and he treats me like I'm a gold eagle.

I'd agree with what derryb said. I've dealt with Jason, and MCM is a good starting point.

I agree with what jmski said about derryb about MCM.

You cannot go wrong with giving them a chance at making you happy(ier)!

Their pricing is so in tune with what is often the lower end of ebay and others in modernos.

I avoid uncertifed pandas, but only because they are more likely to have come from China. image

to the OP, coins graded by a reputable TPG carry the additional advantage of being certified as authentic. As counterfeit coins become more prevalent (especially on higher dollar coins), the small premium for certification will have been a priceless investment. Imagine the affect on uncertified gold buffalo prices if it were discovered tomorrow that they were being counterfeited on a large scale.

Forget it Hoop, my blood runs red, blue, and, er...uh...silver. I'll not be having the "C" word associated with this boy's bullion. Good call on Provident, I forgot about them.

Does MCM deal in gold proofs? I've never really done any significant business with them, and didn't notice anything on the website when glancing quickly. I'm not totally set on proofs, but like I mentioned, I really prefer the look of the proofs in this series to satisfy my collector side. I know I'll pay a higher premium.

How about proof AGE's in mint box? Do you have to have certified? Cheers, RickO

I did, and to be quite honest after calling, they are higher than others out there with less options.

Over the last few days, I'm now actually thinking proof Buffalos...

I still recommend MS69s, more bang for the buck.

You've twisted me back around, I'm going for basic bullion with as little premium over spot as possible. Collecting and investing need to be separated in this case.

K-rands at Provident...$38 over spot. (still going to buy U.S. gold)
  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 33,019 ✭✭✭✭✭
K-rands won't sell for as much of a premium over spot either.

so, when you buy cheap, you will be forced to sell cheap.

go for a AGE or Buff.

I will issue a personal challange to Andy image

PM me how much you spend on bullion. I will track a like amount of Panda's. At the end of 1 yr,,,, 2 yrs and 3 yrs if we are both still breathing we will see who does better. We can put a "C" note on it just to make it interesting. image

A famous author we both know can document the challenge in a "Special Edition" book we both are involved in.

    How about it OSKAM image

Hoop, I've made chumps of bigger men...don't make me break you!

I personally think we may have some dificulty proving which is better to hold - kind of like which is heavier, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers. Unless of course we're both going to walk into the same PM distributor one day and cash it all in. I guess everyone has to cash in at some point or it's ultimately worthless. Ah, therefore my strategic plan to ensure victory will be to just plain outlive you!

Right now, I'm just sitting back waiting while I watch the ticker stay red, waiting to pull the trigger.

I'll tell you what though, while the Phialdelphia show today was probably THE WORST national show I've been to in years - and I mean pathetic, I did hear talk and see more of the Panda's than usual. Everybody had them. You would have thought we were at Walmart with so much Chinese goods.

Well, I am MUCH older than you so you will probably win that way but I think I can last a few more years image

Can we walk into Panda America at the show down?

I don't think I'd touch a Chinese coin unless I could walk into their mint building and buy it in person.
