Sharing a recently unearthed collection of 1952-1955 Baseball***updated with PSA grades****

Hi everyone,

Recently a family member decided it was time to sell his childhood collection. He collected for a short period between 1952-1955. He didn't have a single double. It is obvious that there are no newer cards, so it is neat to get a time capsule from the 50's. He had high expectations for value, as he has some Mickey Mantle's and also a complete set of 1953 Bowman color. Unfortunately the cards are in low to mid-grade condition, but fortunately I had examples of PSA 8's and 9's to show him the difference in condition and therefore price. He entrusted me to sell it for him, and I haven't fully inventoried the collection yet so I haven't decided just how to go about getting the most value for the cards. I am planning to sell the 1953 Bowman color as a set, but haven't decided just how many, if any, cards to send to PSA. The cards will be within the PSA 2 to PSA 5 range. Luckily the 1953 Topps Mantle has great eye appeal and no creases. Strong ex. Also, he had Bob Feller auto three cards, but from a time in the 80's and nicely in blue sharpie.

Enjoy the scans. The breakdown is as follows:

1952 Topps- 120 1st and 2nd series. Feller, Berra, and Duke Snider
1952 Bowman- 207 of 252. Just about all stars present
1953 Bowman color set (unfortunately he wrote in the 1953 stats for all the Dodgers players. Neatly, but still...)
1953 Topps- 3 cards including the Mantle. How lucky is that?
1954 Topps- 120 cards with Robinson, Williams, Spahn, and many other stars
1955 Topps- 80 cards with Robinson, Williams, Aaron
1955 Bowman- 60 cards or so with Aaron, Ford, and others

Whoa...I love these threads. Its threads like this that inspired me to make my raw 50s Topps box.
Good luck with the sale, and please update the thread with more pics or sales progress. Those are some fantastic cards!

Thanks for the suggestions and the comments on the cards. I've never been able to handle 50's baseball, so it is a pleasure for me to get to know the card stock and the intricacies of each issue. I really like the Bob Feller auto's. Seems like he took the time to auto each card where it would look the best. The 1953 Bowman color set is amazing. I love the simplicity of the set. It is also neat to see what cards got the most use. The Brooklyn Dodgers were his favorite team, and you can see there was more attention paid to the cards of the Dodgers.

I agree that breaking up the collection card by card would probably net the most. I am a bit of a complete set kind of person, so it would be sad to think the lovingly collected set by a kid in the 50's would be dispersed in such a way. Such is the pursuit of $$, I suppose.

Again, thanks for the interest and comments.

About what I expected, but the 1953 Mantle deserved a slightly better fate. No creases and a 3?

I am in the middle of organizing them for sale, so these will all be available at some point in the near future. BTW, there were a few hockey of mine in the mix here.

Nice job on the results, at least you got grades on all the Mantles. Love the Bowman signed Feller, with the signature up high on the card, awesome!
