2008 Gold Buffalo Set

There is a small local auction coming up at the end of the month in my area. They have the following to sell:
2008 4 coin Gold Buffalo set Graded Proof 70 Ultra Cameo, 1st Strike
Any help as to the value of this set? I've looked on ebay and seen asking prices of 7500-18,000?
Thanks for the help.

Clearly, the high end of your ebay research is someone's pipe dream. And if there is an asking price on one for $7,500 - is that a B-I-N or a starting price for a real auction?
I'm thinking along the same lines as derryb for the set, HOWEVER - the price histories for the individual coins look to be holding some premiums and a middle of the road estimate for the individual PCGS PR-70 FS coins comes in around $11,500. My data for individual coins is more plentiful and possibly a bit more reliable because it is also somewhat more current.
There is a real discrepancy there which also creates much more uncertainty on the real value. That's why they invented auctions!
Hope that helps, some at least.
I'd rather spend that money on 90% silver, some gold bullion, and some cheaper numismatic gold than waste it on 1.85 oz of gold.......

the terminology is mixed.
"Ultra Cameo" is NGC
"First Strike" is PCGS
which is it?
I'm not looking to keep them, just wondering if they could possibly be purchased low and flipped
Thanks

They were low in 2008.

Yes, I track ebay sales on all the 2008-W gold Buffs, in every grade listed by NGC & PCGS and raw or in the box. I don't log the dates, but I save my spreadsheets. Whatcha need?
What's the wholesale book on a raw, boxed set of uncs as issued?
Best guess............around $5,800 if sold on ebay, before fees. Range, something like $5,500 to $6,300 - trending down, but not crashing - imo.
