1982 Wrestling All Stars Andre The Giant BGS crack outs....

I have cracked out a bunch of BGS cards and finally figured out the best way. You simply crack one corner and use the flat head screw driver and lift the slab apart. Works like magic.

Here are my Andre The Giant Wrestling All Stars I cracked out and plan to sub.

I don't have a good scanner and this card does not scan well but these are very nice.

Didn't you tell us a while ago you mastered the bgs slabs and they were way easier than psa slabs?

Those Giant cards will never grade well with the wrinkle under his left eye.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes I did. I found an even better way. I have never hurt a card but this process is amazing.

That is not a wrinkle, it is his hair.

Here is the stock photo and the stock photo of the Hogan as well.

I am looking for a mid grade PSA 5-6 type. Any chance you have one your willing to let go of?

I don't care what you think; there is not a wrinkle on any of these.

You like to talk smack to me and that is fine. If someone else was posting you would never say that.

This is a BGS 9, 8.5 and 8.5 crackout. Time will tell what PSA thinks now that these are raw.

Aside from the wrinkle, it's clearly a different picture... notice the background behind Andre's head and he's wearing a belt in one and not the other.

It is the same pic. The reason the card is so tough beside the corners is the surface around the hair as it is cropped in the program photo. It is also a yellow card with most having terrible top to bottom centering.

All of these cards are pics from the magazine or programs and they crop them. Here are the Hogan's. I am sure you think it is a differernt picture.

Hookem I am keeping all of my Andre's. I have 24 or 25 and just plan to sit on them for a while and see how these shake out.

I don't think it is the same Hogan picture, it's a pose he's been well known to do throughout his career.

Also, if you look at his package in the Wrestling Review Magazine pic it seems very small ...like a dot, where on the Major League Wrestling Magazine it seems not as small and goes to the left.

I load up on cards that I think have potential.

I have 13 of the Panini Tyson Rookie and 6 of the Question of Sport.

I am confused. How do you not get this. The cards were made from pictures that Norman Keitzer owned and placed on a card and turned into a head shot. I own tons of the magazines of the same pics that were used on the cards.

I am in agreement, definitely not the same picture.

He was the editor of the Wrestling News which later did the writing for the The Ring and The Wrestling Review.

He was the guy along with Vince McMahon Sr. who came up with the idea to make the cards.

If you see the back of the cards they say The Wrestling News division of Pro Wrestling Enterprises which was his company.

His business hit the skids in late 1983 when Vince Jr. deciced he would no longer use programs for his shows that were published by Norman. He also began to publish his own magazine and took away the magazine photo credintials from him and it was down hill from there.

The Shiek picture is interesting because it shows the full picture of why he has that weird expression on the card, I still don't get why the Hulk and Giant pictures are different from the cards.

I have a Hulk version of this card but his face is facing right, is the reverse negative rare at all?

Dude, that's definitely not the same Hogan picture. He's obviously wearing sunglasses in the magazine but not on the card.

does anyone know how to upload larger pictures? the paper stock on this card is thinner than a topps card, so maybe it's a reprint?

    +1

I hadn't noticed this before, but I think you're right. It does look like he has sunglasses on in the program and I don't see them on the card.

I'm just trying to learn more about wrestling cards. I've got like 8 of these same sets at home and wanted to know more about them.
  • Sums it up pretty well.

Good luck with the grades Dpeck!
  • That gave me a good laugh. D they certainly got you a bit.

Good luck with the grades on those crack outs. Hope you get at least 2 9's, maybe a 10!

I really enjoy your wrestling collection and posts. What brand of sunglasses does he have on in that picture?

It does not bother me that trolls come out on these threads. There are a lot of baseball card collectors on here and non sport and to me the Wrestling All Stars set is my favorite.

If you have nothing better to do with your time then give me a hard time about wrestling cards I actually feel bad for you. This is a hobby. There is a lot more to Dpeck100.

Mike there should not be a 10 in this bunch. If I got a 9 I would be ecstatic!

I am going to get some cards from the 1988 Wonderama cards graded soon with the rookie of Sting, Arn Anderson, Big Bubba Rogers and many cards of the Road Warriors and Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen.

The Four Horsemen Gem Mint 10 sold for $100 last week. I got that graded a few months back.

I just cracked out my final BGS Andre The Giant. This is the nicest one I have ever handled but the top to bottom centering will never allow for this to be in a PSA 9 holder. This is a beautiful card!

  • The 4 horsemen. I remember watching them back in the day...

It could be done as all in the pic are alive.

I like the idea. If you want a nice raw copy I will part with one for you Mike.

<< <i>Any card out there with the original Horsemen? (+Ole, -Luger) >>

Yes when Dpeck referred to the 4 horsemen that is exactly what I was thinking. The 1988 card isn't the 4 horsemen I saw back in the day...
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
No there is not. These were produced in 1988 and he was already out of the group. I will have to double check and see if he is even in the set.

The NWA headed by Jim Crockett Promotions is who made the cards but JCP was less then a year away from folding and you can tell why in many of pictures. The WWF was really becoming the front runner in the wrestling war.

These sets were said to be the most rare sets of wrestling cards but I don't believe it. There are some cool cards in them but the vast majority of the cards are action shots and there is little star power. You will only find a few rookie cards in the set.
