Greece Trip

Next Tuesday, we leave for a 10 day trip to Greece. It's been a trip we've wanted to do for 34 years.

I'm quessing the Euro will still be intact. (I could bring some old Drachma coins)
I'm quessing there might be some riots. (I'll see if it's true that they bus these communists in to Constitution Square)
I'm quessing the hotels offer a better exchange rate than the banks. (According to our travel agent)
I'm quessing I won't be buying any gold or silver as it's cheaper here.

3 days Athens, 3 days Mykonos, 3 days Santorini.

Should we be worried about traveling to Greece? Nah, I will not change my values or morals or goals because of fear.

Opa, Kuch

  • I hope it's a friendlier place than it was in 1978. Communism was a fairly strong and legal party in Athens as I recall. I didn't feel any love for Americans back then. I was there when they held their annual wine festival, don't recall the month. I think it was like $5 entrance for all the wine you could drink, it was a bit like a drunken swap meet environment. I'm not saving my money for a return trip.

Hopefully you will enjoy it more than I did. I wish you a safe trip.

I was in Greece in June. There were riots (demonstrations) back then. Don't know how today's compare to those in June - but those in June had minimal effect on our time in Athens. You're going to love Mykonos and Santorini. We hit 9 or 10 ports in Greece. Mykonos and Santorini were #s 1 and 2, respectively.

Perhaps democracy to communism is a natural progression. ( Nah, not going to stoop to his level )

I was there in 2005-- hit the Acropolis museum! I visited a week before it opened. image It's an amazing place. The Athens museum is fantastic, too. See what happens to gold impliements and jewelery after 2,000 years. (Hint, nothing!)

    Have a blast and enjoy!

be sure to notify the banks that have your ATM's and/or credit cards of your trip.
i dunno about hotels vs banks/ATM's but that's what your TA should know.
