A huge loss to the forums, the hobby, and as a sincerely nice young man to chat with.
RIP Mark.

"The only problem with the 'mirror technique' is that most coins in our set (and many others on here) are slabbed. Anyone have any advice on how best to count reeds in a slab? I was looking at our 1870-S and it appears that it could be done, at least for that one coin (in a PCGS holder...). "

I sat with Mark & his Dad for an hour or so at his CSNS exhibit. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgable. Knew all the coins and who owned what in his series. Had a strong understanding of how the services operate on the coins he & his Dad were collecting - not something you expect from a 21-year old. Laura came over to visit during the discussion, took a coin Mark had a technical question about, personally walked it over to John Dannreuther, and came back with his opinion. I'm guessing Laura wouldn't do that for a lot of people.

Crohn's disease
What a tragedy.
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

So sorry to learn this news.
My deepest condolences to his family.
I did not know Crohn's disease could be this bad....really sucks.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
Don't have any helpful words. He was one of the people whose posts were always worth reading. Saddened to hear this happened. Never got to meet him. I had hoped to when he had the seated set on display at the September 2010 Columbus OH show, but could not get there.

Crohn's disease has no known cure. It can cause strokes, seizures and a myriad of other symptoms some of which
can manifest on the body as sores and lesions. It is a terrible disease. That kid must have had courage.
RIP.
It effects mainly young people too.
Mark was a very enthusiastic and a very sophisticated coin collector. He contributed a great deal to this forum and was an asset to the coin collecting community in general.
I am certain that he will be missed by many numismatists.

We traded some PMs--very mature, and I thought his eye for coins was amazing to be so young.
I am a family doc, and I would agree with what Man of Coins said above. My first thought was complication of meds, because they can potentially suppress the immune system; if he was having a lot of flareups. Crohn's in many ways can worse than cancer in what it does to you and some of the complications they suffer. Another 'C' word to add worse than cancer and chronic. Such a scourge. Then again, I have had some patients who have responded very well and lived full lives-- just a continuum of severity of the disease.
He will be missed greatly, and prayers for his family & loved ones.
I really enjoyed his enthusiastic, interesting posts about coins I share an interest in. He seemed like a very bright, accomplished young man. My condolences to his family and those who knew him well.
