Nickels

I usually don't have much succes with the nickels like Dock does but I found 9 yesterday and 14 today. That beats last months total. Yesterdays were underground and todays were in the grass along with dimes. We had cool weather for a change and that made it just pretty nice to be out.

As of today I have 240 nickels and 278 quarters. I bet PPC is over 500 for quarters.

A couple years ago I detected on the University of Rolla campus and found two war nickels about ten feet apart. I also found a couple Mercury dimes nearby. It was hard detecting. Grass roots were tough to cut through, ground was hard in late July and objects were deep.

I remember there are old buildings from turn of the last century. It is easy to imagine a century of students dropping goodies in the quadrangle. When you look at the buildings and the ground close to them you can tell dirt has been added through the years. You know good stuff is there to be found but you just can't get at it. I think they have added a lot of soil to the grounds making it difficult to get at deep targets.

The first coin i found in the US other than modern was a 1913 Buffalo , it's clearly dated and seems it would have been in decent condition but it's black as coal.
