Greatest reason ever for wanting to return a coin that I sold on eBay

Many years ago, I had a 1793 Wreath Cent (Sheldon-5, better variety) in an old ANACS-cache Fine details holder that read CORRODED, DAMAGED, BENT. Nice trifecta!

Upon receipt, the buyer cracks the coin out of the holder, and tells me he wants to return it.

HIS REASON: The coin was bent more than he thought before he cracked it out!

Being that I turned 45 today, this scenario reminded me of that hit by The Thompson Twins in 1984 - "Doctor, Doctor."

Have a nice and safe Labor Day weekend.

Greg

I can't recall any really stellar reasons for returns. I do have a buyer who decided a few days after winning some modern gold that it shouldn't have gotten the grade (NGC 68) because of large hairlines (note: die polish). Of course, the photos didn't change since he won, he never saw the coin in hand, and decided this was a good reason to cancel the entire deal. He'll be receiving his unpaid item strikes in 2 days...

I sold a 1903 Morgan Dollar in NGC MS63 years ago (1990s) on eBay. I advertised it as "untoned (white)." A picture was provided. The buyer returned it angrily because it wasn't white! He went on to explain that there was a carbon fleck on the side of the "3" in the date. I needed a loupe to find it, and there is was, on the inside loop of the digit "3", a miniscule flyspeck.

No bother, I flipped it to a local dealer at $10 above the lowball price he paid for it in the auction.

How about the ones that whine because they haven't gotten their unemployment or social security cheques yet? Yup, had a couple of those back in my selling on eBay days. It must be a luxury to bid on stuff you cannot even afford.

You're right, that is the worst reason I've ever heard.

BTW, I love your logo, that coin is in my son's type set.

I supposed that's just slightly better than if the coin were holed....
Then he would have cracked it out and tried to return it because the hole "went all the way through" the coin......

What an idiot.... does he not even understand that by cracking it out, he owns it... automatically? Weird, but still an idiot. Cheers, RickO

This is not a return but i like to look at the ebay names and the offers they make. Last week i got a lowball offer on a item i was selling. The ebayer that made the offer- "wayunder" . I replied thanks for the offer but you are "wayunder" the going price.

Spot price went down after the auction, and I paid spot plus free shipping. I cannot accept a financial loss, so I'll be returning the item.. And just so you don't lose any money, I'm sending it FedEx overnight.

I'd love to add that bidder to my "blocked" list, if you'd be so kind.
    When in doubt, don't.

Yeah -- I mean really, eBay and Paypal practically prostrate themselves before buyers, but here? If the seller has to deliver what was "as described," seems to me a buyer returning an item has to return it in the same "condition" as the item was received -- in this case in the same ANACS holder.

Here is one of my favorite replies I received a few weeks ago about a coin the guy said he had not "bided" on. When all the smoke clears I will post the rest of the email exchanges.

"I have an email about item XXXXXXXXXXX reqesting payment which i have not bided on. I did view item no. XXXXXXXXXXXX but was out bided on, can you shed some light on this for me. thank you, email at XXXXXXXXX@att.net"

Nothing was misrepresented! Buyers problem now! It was in an ANACS holder which after all is ONLY a third parties opinion of the coin which the buyer should have known........ If you ask me, it seems like there are people out there who just buy items just to return on purpose to cause people headaches image

Feepay made me take back a coin that had been cracked out and the $ was refunded to the "buyer'. The coin was a modern commem - 1986 Statue of Lib half in a PCGS holder. "Buyer" tried to resell it as silver and forced a return to me when she found out it wasn't silver.

Also had 2 clowns return modern silver commems thru SNAD claims about a month after the price of silver fell. Each claimed the PCGS and NGC coins were counterfeit.

All that has to be done is for them to claim a SNAD and regardless of what the situation, you will be taking it back and providing a refund.
