Better pics up - not great but better
I dont know much of anything about colonials. I looked in the redbook and it does not match any of the varieties. Thanks

From the picture I see I believe it is an authentic NJ copper. Ithe variety is Maris 48-g. This is a variety that is known in copies but this one looks legit to me. The picture is a bit out of focus so I cannot be sure, but I think you have a real NJ copper on your hands!

It looks genuine to me. I would have no reason to think otherwise.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. This is a known die variety with unremarkable date numerals similar to those on many other colonials across all series.

If I attributed this correctly, this is a rare one. From what I can determine it is a Maris 48-X, W-5265. It is rated as a URS-4 on Dave Bower’s Universal Rarity Scale, 5 to 8 known. Auction records cited were a “VF, rough and granular, $9,200” in the John Ford sale and Lorenzo Collection (Stacks 1/2008), VF-20, $43,125.

Don’t get too excited until an expert in this area, which I am not, has confirmed it.

It's a 48-g, which is a rarity-1 and among the most common New Jerseys.
