Small Gold Help

I know these pics aren't the best, but I have the chance to pick up these 4 coins at a decent price.
Can any of you with knowledge in these areas help to tell if these coins look real, and what value they have?
Thank you!

The coins are:
1867 - 1/4 dollar - Denomination & Date in wreath - Small Liberty Head
1864 - 1/2 dollar - Denomination & date in wreath - Small Liberty Head
1852 - $1 - United States Liberty Head
1853 - $1 - United States Liberty Head

If you don't know the series I would NEVER buy any gold dollar raw, especially the Type I (1849 to 1854). There have been many counterfiets over the years, and no one can tell you if those coins are good or not from those pictures.

If you want a Type I gold dollar, buy a certified one in a PCGS or NGC holder. They are not that expensive in the circulated grades.

As for the fractional gold a piece with a hole in it is nothing but a charm.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I know how risky raw gold is, that's why I wanted to give it a shot here and see if anyone can see something I didn't or if the fractionals were rare/real or not.
    Thanks again!

From the first pic, the top left and bottom right coins are most certainly fakes. Top right one also looks bad. Bottom left one might be legit, but given that it was sold in the same lot as the other 3, I'd severely question it's authenticity. I wouldn't touch those with a 50' pole.

If you can determine if they are gold and can get them for close to melt. That is about the only way I would consider them.

    1852 and 1853 both weigh 1.6 grams
    1864 1/2 is .6 grams
    1867 1/4 is .3 grams

    Thoughts?

Depending on the accuracy of your scale, the dollars are .1 grams low.

Unless you are an expert on gold, buying raw, ungraded gold coins from anyone other than a dealer you know you can trust or the US Mint is very risky at best. Caveat emptor ("let the buyer beware")!

I believe they are all genuine. Show some better images though. Try imaging each one separately.

Agree. Avoid raw gold, especially the smaller gold coins ($1, $2 1/2, $3) which have been very heavily counterfeited.

Seriously, why even take the chance? It isn't that hard to find the exact same coins in top-tier TPG holders. If you're getting some sort of super too-good-to-be-true deal, ask yourself why..........

Are the ones damaged? A little above melt sounds fair, around $260. If the ones aren't damaged, apretty good deal, imo.
