Newp: Lafayette TrueView (from the recent past)

Here's a TrueView of that Lafayette dollar I picked up. I love the luster on this piece and think it's an excellent specimen. It also has a nice planchet flaw on the obverse which I think prevented it from going to where I thought it should go (grade wise). Enjoy!

I don't find the impurity in the planchet on the obverse to be a visual deterrent.
<< <i>The reverse is pretty dreamy... Totally lusterlicious!

I also agree about the planchet issue. It isn't a deterrent by any means, in fact, the luster cuts right into it when you have it in hand. It goes down in the pit and then back out. I hope GEN doesn't virtually kick my butt now.

I like it overall (both sides) as it's nice a original skinned example and I would much rather own a specimen like this over a dipped out Gem.
GEN might sulk for a moment when he finds out what this graded out as
Huge score and there's definitely something to making them yourself!
Let me be the first to tell you that...

probably 64 or 65, and yes, I'm still kicking myself for not being aggressive enough on this one. I even had the chance to hit the BIN at $500 when the auction was first listed!
You got a great score

I normally just type in "PCGS or NGC" when looking at Classic Commems so I never even saw it.
I have my searches with email updates set up the same way.
$500 BIN you say

Yep, hindsight it 20/20.
But the first bid was something like $100, so I did that to remove the BIN. The pictures were so bad I didn't think it would go for more than $300.

Bah, I would had hit the BIN at 500. You made me work for it. Haha!
And it did not genuine, coolest.
Looking at the old forum threads about Lafayette dollars. I came across this one. This sold for $3450 at the Heritage FUN sale. The seller also offered it on the BST for a while at $2800, I'm sad that I missed out on it.

Hey devious looks like the planchet flaw didn't stop it after all...
<< <i>Wow, hard to believe that coin was listed on eBay for $500 a scant four years ago! >>
I know as in another 4 it could be a MS66+ then a MS67+ in 8

yeah the guy in the background on the obverse
something about his hair has me wondering if he's a trump relative or something

That would be Lafayette.
No relation to Trump.
