sort of OT: How long do you wait on payment from ebay?

BBNBBN Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭
After 5 days I don't expect payment, but am I being pushy in at least wanting an email saying why this person couldn't pay once they hit the BIN button? I am a buyer and a seller and if it's going to be a few days before I can pay I always send an email explaining why it will be a few days and when I expect to pay. This auction was set to go 5 days and was supposed to end last night but this person pulled the trigger 5 days ago.

With that said is it reasonable to simply send a reminder? I don't want to be pushy, but I've never had to wait this long for a payment without the buyer at least explaining the delay.

I ask for payment within seven days. Invoice at end of auction. Reminder at 7 days. File the UPI at 10 days. Close and issue strike at 14 days.

    After 4 days, I re-invoice.

After 7 days, if I have not heard from the buyer, I'll re-invoice.

If I have not heard from the buyer within two weeks, I'll file a NPB report with eBay. That usually gets their attention.

As for the reminder? I could be wrong but I beleive that the eBay System sends out automatic reminders if an item is won but not paid for.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I don't know what is reasonable BUT when I buy it now it is paid for right then.
When I win and auction it's paid with in a few hours.

When selling I give the buy two days to make contact with me and then on the third day
I send a friendly reminder and maybe another after 5days and then if nothing after 7 days
    I'm claiming foul with eBay.

Thanks for the responses folks. I sent an invoice the day after the auction was finished. I wouldn't be annoyed, but he BIN'd an auction 5 days ago that would have ended last night and I haven't heard a word. I hope everything is OK with him and there are no problems. If he just needs to wait a few days to make the payment I just want to know. I have no problems waiting a week or whatever, just let me know.

Was the buyer in the path of the hurricane? If so, he might not have electricity.

I will usually wait a week for payment and then file with eBay.

You know you can check a box that requires immediate payment with a BIN?

My wife mentioned this last night and brought up a good point, but according to his address, he's in Michigan. I'll wait awhile and relax. It could be anything. I didn't know that ebay did auto reminders so I'll let that take place and maybe contact him after another 2-3 days.

All my NPB's are automatically handled by eBay. Starts at 4 days & concludes after 7 days. I don't even get involved unless the buyer responds, which they normally don't, to the NPB

I don't recall seeing where this guy was located, but try to have some patience if this guy is located in the mid to upper east coast. They will be cleaning up a big mess for a while and I'm sure that if this guy is in an affected area then his ebay purchase is the last thing on his mind. Send a reminder and give him a few days to respond.

Oh, and if you want paid right away, then make the auction "immediate payment required". You can do that when you set up the listing.

Totally meaningless & unenforceable unless your auction is a BIN, even then it can be circumvented.

There is no IPR option for auctions.
