  • You are in the right place. The boards don't have a seperate place for pre-Federal/Colonial but we have some very dedicated collectors of these areas, right here. Welcome!!! image

    Hi Josh,

Welcome aboard! This place is littered with guys/gals who collect pre-Federal/Colonial coins either exclusively or as part of their larger collections. Use the "search" feature and with a couple key words you'll dig up tons of cool threads on them.

    Enjoy!

    Welcome Josh!

Jump right in. What aspect of colonial / pre-federal coinage would you like to discuss?

    Hi Laird,

I'm a pre-federal / Colonial type collector. As such I don't collect varieties, but I do collect higher grade stuff ranging from VF to AU. I have a Mint State Virginia half penny, but that's a hoard coin and does not count. image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • Wow . Thanks Guys. I'm pretty much interested in anything before 1790 ok maybe 1800. I started with Morgans and Peace Dollars, moved to any standard business strike US, and accidently became interested in "colonials" ( I know its not entirely correct, but I use this to describe most of the years mentioned above), after my wife bought me a F - VF Fugio one year for Christmas. I love the Vermonts (although I don't own any), but am completely awestruck with probably the ugliest "Colonial" out there the '85 - 88 Connecticuts. I am also not the common collector. Grade does little for me, I would actually rather have a low grade, because to me attributing a rough coin brings me more sastisfaction than just buying a nice one. Don't get me wrong F+ Colonials are certainly worth collecting (and I won't pass one up), but I like the challenge of finding the proverbial "needle in a haystack". Thank you all for making me feel welcome, I look forward to talking to you all. Josh
