Just picked up an awesome piece...

Being a Harmon Killebrew collector, this piece I just got really makes me happy. It's the original 1960 handpainted Flexichrome from Topps that was used to make a dual card of Harmon and Rocky Colavito. For whatever reason (either due to Rocky being traded or the fact that he had another dual card in the '60 set) the card was never produced. In person, the piece is gorgeous, the colors are very vibrant. I love the expression on Harmon's face too.

Bob Lemke (whom I bought this from) made a custom card of what it could've looked like, had the card been produced.

And the card Bob made is amazing! I would have no idea that wasn't part of the regular set.

Actually, the piece was owned by the guy I bought it from for over 25 years. So from somewhere in their vaults, yes. Just not like the ones you get now on ebay with a COA.

    That is awesome, congratulations.

As to the handpainting, as a collector of the 1960 set I've wondered how Topps decided which cards to paint. I still have no clue, but this piece gives an interesting perspective on it.

Thanks. I've always been curious how long this went on as I know some '61 (and maybe a few '62?) cards, especially rookies, were painted. Is it because they only had a B&W photo of these players?
