The Weather Channel is crazy before a storm. They basically have said this going to be one of the worst Hurricanes in years. I must admit I never remember parts of NYC being evacuated.
Parts of Suffolk Co. on LI are being evacuated now also. They have cars with bullhorns riding down the street. I've never seen anything like it in my life and I've lived here all my life.

Just came from Walmart in Warwick, RI. There literally was not a single loaf of bread or bottle of water in the whole store. Luckily I had already stocked up on that stuff.
Just a reminder if anyone has an eBay store and lives in any of the affected areas: I would suggest hiding your items before the storm hits so that if A) an item sells and it gets damaged by the storm or someone buys an item and your power is out for an extended period of time and you don't know about it and therefore don't ship it and get your DSRs dinged by some unforgiving eBay goon.
Grote, don't worry if you get evacuated. I'll check in on your stuff, no charge.
I'll be here with my shotgun and a fifth of bourbon. Ain't no one getting through here!

Took a little drive around this afternoon. These two pictures are about a mile and a half from my home. The first is taken from the bridge over the river. Normally, all of the water is where a parking lot would be. If I took this picture from the exact spot two days ago, there would be NO WATER in the picture.
This picture is from the other side of town (a little less than a mile from where I took the picture above). The bridge is way, way off in the distance. The river is usually about 30 yards wide, but is now nearly a mile wide. It may be even worse around 2-3 hours from now when the river crests...
Luckily, aside from some localized flooding, the damage has been minimal. Based upon projections, it could've been far worse. Even another couple of inches of rain would've disastrous! Now, we're just dealing with some continuing wind gusts as the tail end of the storm passes through.
I'm happy to report I am still in one piece, along with my collection!
Scott is correct in that the storm could have been a lot worse, as it weakened a bit before hitting LI. I am lucky to have power but over 400,000 homes on LI do not.

We were bracing for some bad weather. We live near the water and had multiple plans for flooding most of all. Our van was parked on higher ground. We had coolers packed with ice , for the freezer food. All the normal junk. As it turned out , not much wind damage to the house . Lots and lots of limbs down. Our power went out early on , but we were ready. It came on about an hour ago.
My family sure was glad it wan't any worse. Its been bad , numerous times in the past. this wasn't one of those times.---- Sonny

There are approximately 480,000 electric customers in RI. As of right now, 313,000 have no power, and they say it could take a week to get everyone back up and running.
Lost power this afternoon after all. Nice to have a smart phone and car charger.

We lost power yesterday early around 8AM and it finally went back on around Monday 4AM. It was not bad at all, some really bad wind gusts. I live in an area with alot of trees so many big ones were knocked down and took the power lines with them.
Back up and running as of early this morning! Dodged a bullet with this storm, only two small trees down and no major damage..

Unlike Grote, power went out at 5:50am Sunday morning and has been out ever since. Multiple trees down in my area with power lines down and laying across a street around the corner from me. One house had a tree crash through its roof, but luckily no one was hurt and another tree split in two and one half squashed a beetle, unfortunately it was the type you drive. Took pictures and will upload when I have power at home. Currently at work which has power.
Hope everyone is safe and we all get power back soon!!!

No power right now in Boston - hour 22 of it. Had some flooding in the basement - not hideous. It did get to about 25,000 80s-90s commons, so at least I now have a reason to get rid of those....
