If a magical genie came out of a bottle and offered you this choice.............

Gold to hit $500/oz immediately, or gold to hit $3,000 immediately......which would you choose and why?

Im 36 yrs old and dont have a lot of gold. I have what I consider to be an "adequate" stack....whatever that means. But im not done adding to the stack by a long shot! With at least another 14 years till retirement, I plan on buying gold on a steady basis till im at least 50. I would LOVE to see gold reset at $500....so I root for these downturns. For full disclosure, I own no paper gold at all. So in the upticks, or downturns, all that really occurs is the change in the value of my stack.....which does not matter to me at this early point in the game. Accumulating the most oz of gold is whats important to me. And when gold falls in price...I can buy more of it.

    That depends
Is gold $500 because the economy is fixed? Or is this just a short magical reprieve for me to acquire more?

Since we are talking about a magical genie, I would say the latter.

I am with Gecko, since I am 36 and own only few ounces, I would wish to see gold down to $500 to buy a lot more.

Economy not fixed.....gold just takes a huge whoopin and backs down to $500. Some may not see this as a "reprieve" though. Imagine if you were 62 years old and had 250 ounces right now. You might have a VERY different answer to my question. image

Yesterday's $500 is tomorrow's $3,000. I maintain that the dollar number really doesn't matter. What matters are the reasons why.

Heck i wish it would go to $500 so i can actually own me an ounce or so I was to young to even start thinking about gold a few years ago

Lets see. Are you saying it shoots up to $3,000 and stays there or drops to $500 and stays there (for the next 14 years). On the other hand, are you saying it drops to $500 and within 14 years be up to $3,000 an oz? Either way, in order to fix the debt crisis we are in, in 14 years, the tax on your proceeds will be 98%. So, it doesn't really matter.

As I don't have that much gold, and IMO, the price it's at now is
uncomfortable if not scary, so I'd opt with the $500/OZ and simpler
    times.

But don't genie's grant 3 wishs, so I'd wish for a financially sound

Where's the poll? With my gold holdings, I'll pick $3000.

I think I'd ask for a different genie if that's all he was granting. But if i had to choose, I'd go with the $500 gold.

Accumulating is one way to stack. A better way to stack is to also trade the the tops and bottoms and "compound" your stack as well.
