  • Ya Know, People say how AT coins are not really worth spending money on
I guess because they a not natural but rather man made. Well for the longest
time I have been a firm believer of this and wouldn't consider buying coins
like this Ike. I am now starting to look at this way. Art or rather paintings
come in different forms like the old masters, PoP Art and all kinds of different
types and people spend money on those and some times Big Money, soooooo
When someone applies them self to making a AT coin and the coin is pleasant
to look at, shouldn't they get some kind of reward for their hard work. I don't
mean the farm just a reward for their effort. After all it's that what everyone
of us wants out of life, just a little reward? I mean aren't we each
given a cookie when we come to the form or anywhere else we surf to and

My, that's ugly. "No chemicals are used to tone my coins", seller says. Just torches and ovens. And people still buy that carp.

I have one single MS toned Ike. It's PCGS MS65. Got it for 18 dollars on eBay. I was surprised nobody else bid on it. It's a really pretty tone coin. I'll try and take pictures and get them up tomorrow when I get back from camping.

Rather an extreme example.... but there are so many out there - in and out of slabs - that AT is becoming acceptable to a large sector of the hobby... Cheers, RickO

I purchased a couple of this sellers coins since when I asked, the seller freely admitted using a hot/cold technique and I thought they looked pretty cool.

No doubt the coins are ATed and they are being sold as such with no other claims. I have no thoughts toward getting them slabbed and they have absolutely no numismatic value. As 1971-S coins, they do have some silver value but whatever.

IMO, as long as folks like what they see and understand that its all AT, then go for it.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Agreed. In fact, there are so many that have been slabbed the distinction is being blurred. So I don't believe that now there is even a consideration of NT vs. AT. It's now all whether it's acceptable vs. not acceptable.

What each person does when they buy should be up to them. If they like a coin and like its price then go ahead...make the purchase. In fact, the coin being show here might be well worth purchasing for some newbie. They might be able to use it as a marker in what NOT to buy in the future....use it for reference...as long as it is cheap there is nothing wrong with that.

What IS a problem is the non-disclosure and outright fraud that happens. There is considerable damage when coins are sold that are misrepresented. All you can do there is try to educate and help newer collectors with some education.
