What a wonderful community we have here on these boards. My wife's dad died of pancreatic cancer 7 years ago and it was a rollercoaster of emotions for her. I can only imagine what you’re going through. God Bless and rip a few packs!! image

    Hey Mike,

The best reward is hearing your reaction to all of this. The board is a great place to share our collections, swap stories, ask for opinions, etc., but it also is one of the best when it comes to rallying around one of its own. Can't wait to see those cards if you do decide to rip some or all of them. As long as you have fun doing it is all that matters.

Continued prayers for you and your family during this difficult time. I'm always around if you need a late night pep talk or to just talk cards.

I would also like to thank Mark for putting this thing in motion. He truly did an amazing job with this and the timing worked out pretty well with the group rip too. It's great when a plan comes together so beautifully.

    Mike,
I'm glad to have played a small role in all of this. Hearing your reaction is just heartwarming. Do with the pack whatever makes you happy.
Props to Mark for setting this up.

Best wishes to you and your family.

I somehow missed this thread. I'm glad it made your day. I participated but it was cincyredlegs idea image
  • Thanks again everyone, this was very generous and thoughtful.

I have opened a few packs and am uploading some scans. I have kept 30, which is just a lot IMO, meaning you guys, well did a lot. I also am going to keep the 85 and 86 grocery cello racks(think that's what they are called). I am going to contact PSA tomorrow and see if they will slab them for me. I am going to explain what you all did, and see if they will put something like this: CU Board Mbrs 8/19/2011, or along those lines..

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really like the phrase Strength to Inspire. That's the way I look at positive things and the impact they make. Either way I hope they will do it. So maybe I'll see if they will do: Strength To Inspire 8/19/2011.

Once I get that done, I am going to figure out how to display them in a really nice case I can put in my office on the wall.

That's what I have thought of so far.

Sounds great Mike!!! Looking forward to seeing those scans.

How about a combination of your two ideas: "CU Strength To Inspire 8/19/2011"?

  • That sounds perfect Mike!!! I love it!

So here are a few of the goodies that came out of YOUR packs!!!! image

    image

Other than the Ripken I've always loved this card from 82.

    image

Can we get any more classic than these two Stars!

    image

    Love these years for Basketball.

    image

No Montana out of the 81 pack, but these two looked nice at first glance. Nice Kareem..

    image

I did open the 76 Football pack hoping... But I must say these are very crisp!

I only opened a few again, I think what Mike and I combined is what I am going to get these slabbed with. Really excited about this project. Ultimately I will get them all up in a case on my wall for everyone to see.

    Thank you,

    Mike

Edit: I am obviously not a pro at scanning. I did scan these at 600 versus 200. Anyway I'm getting better at scanning. I used to not be able to show 4 cards in one scan, lol.

Can't wait to see the display when you are done. Very nice Lambert RC!
Currently working on: Kurt Warner PSA 9 or 10

I agree with Mike, the Jack Lambert card is sharp. I remember getting that card back in the day although everyone wanted Mean Joe Greene.

Here's to PSA coming through with that specialty flip. image

I just noticed this thread now - I am very happy I was able to help in some way and be a part of this. No one should have to go through what you and your children are going through, so hopefully our gift can at least bring a momentary smile.

    Best wishes,

I threw in heavy on this fund raiser. I am very pleased that it went so well.

I try and keep my givings low key but I am so pleased at how well this turned out.

The member who put this together deserves a lot of credit. This is why America will never die. There are still good people who live here.

This was a great gift to one of the best in the card collecting world.

The next time you give up on the American spirit don't and use this as a reason why.

We are still strong and this proves it.

Mike I wish you the best with life and of course this gift.
  • Mike,
Glad I was able to be part of something that brought a smile

  • Thanks D! Perfectly spoken and I completely agree. I think cards, maybe because we all are so careful with them, it brings such as positive character out of us.

I have met and dealt with thousands of people in my life. Whether they worked for me or I was their agent, etc, etc. My point is this forum in particular for me has some really, really special people.

Thanks buddy and to everyone. It was so great to see someone get a new job on a thread earlier today, someone got some good poppage, someone purchased a great 70's set run, some laughed, joked, made a little fun, living...that's what this is all about. You help me, we help others, each other to live, live in a forum in which around us we are surrounded by so much negative in the world.

This place is uplifting! 99% of the time.... We all have days!
